Humans of Safety: Featuring "Muskaan Foundation for Road Safety"

Greetings SafetyConnect Community,

In this edition, we are proud to spotlight the impactful work of the " Muskaan Foundation For Road Safety ", an NGO born out of tragedy but driven by a powerful commitment to making our roads safer for all.

Inspiration Behind the Cause:

Established in 1999, the " Muskaan Foundation For Road Safety " was founded in response to the heartbreaking loss of 17-year-old Durva Bhasin in a devastating road accident. Durva, the daughter of esteemed founders Mr. Pramod Bhasin and Dr. Mridul Bhasin, inspired the "Muskaan Foundation". Their mission is to cultivate a positive and proactive road safety attitude, engaging with governmental and private entities to address multifaceted challenges.

The founders, inspired by teacher Mr. Sandeep Sethi, who taught Durva, initiated the NGO on the 13th day after her tragic death. This collective effort began with 20 friends of Durva singing "Hum Honge Kamyab," marking the genesis of the "Muskaan Foundation".

Contributions to the Safety Community:

Road Safety School Education Program:

Muskaan Foundation's nationwide impact in schools involves teacher training and a road safety club model, running successfully in collaboration with The Indian Air Force Educational and Cultural Society. Recognized in the NO BAG Day initiative by the Education Department, Government Of Rajasthan , the Foundation is nominated to the CBSE committee for a curriculum on road safety and social issues. Collaborating with the Education Department, Government of Uttar Pradesh , it integrates road safety education in 12 government schools in Varanasi.

Developing Safer Roads :

Muskaan Foundation has been at the forefront of developing, updating, and implementing regular road safety programs. These programs address immediate concerns and foster a long-term commitment to safer roads.

Capacity Building for Impact:

The Foundation conducts specialized capacity-building and training programs for stakeholder departments and various segments of the community. By equipping officials with essential knowledge and skills, the Muskaan Foundation empowers them to implement effective road safety measures, contributing to safer road infrastructure and improved emergency medical response systems.

Community Mobilization for Active Participation:

Muskaan Foundation actively engages communities in road safety through social and technical audits. By seeking insights, experiences, and perspectives from the community, the Foundation gains valuable information about local road conditions, driver behavior, and concerns. This participatory approach enhances the understanding of specific challenges and potential solutions.

Alignment with Sustainable Development Goals:

Muskaan Foundation aligns its work with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals in India, focusing on the five pillars of Road Safety Management, Safer Roads and Mobility, Safer Vehicles, Safer Road Users, and Post-Crash Response.

Advocacy for Policy Changes:

The Foundation passionately advocates for city, state, and national policy changes. By collaborating with local authorities and policymakers, the Muskaan Foundation works towards enhanced road infrastructure, effective traffic management systems, and strict enforcement of traffic regulations.
