Are humans or AI better at creating original ideas, concepts, and questions?

I asked perplexity.ai to ask two related questions in follow up to Rob Tyre's response "yes and no" in the comment section to this blog.

  • How do we make sense of our meaning-making and purpose-making in posing questions to AI?

1. Who is better at creating original ideas and questions? Humans or AI

Based on perplexity.ai , humans are better at creating original ideas and questions compared to current AI systems.

The search results indicate that while AI can support the process of solving complex "wicked" problems, it still has significant limitations in fully solving them on its own. The key points are:

  • AI can augment human creativity by generating novel ideas, but humans are still needed to refine and build upon those ideas.
  • Wicked problems require subjective, divergent thinking and an appreciation for broader context, which current AI systems struggle with.1
  • There are concerns that AI could introduce biases or prioritize the wrong objectives when trying to solve complex problems.1
  • The most effective approach is a collaborative one, where AI supports and augments human intelligence, rather than replacing it entirely.1
  • Humans provide the necessary creativity, contextual understanding, and ethical judgment that AI currently lacks.1

The search results emphasize that while AI may advance in the future, humans still have unique traits like creativity and divergent thinking that make them better at generating original ideas and framing new questions, compared to current AI capabilities.1 4 ?The human ability to respond in diverse, subjective ways and consider broader context is key for addressing wicked problems.1

So in summary, the search results indicate that humans are currently better than AI at creating original ideas and framing new questions, though AI can play a supportive role in the process.

2. Are humans or AI better at creating original ideas, concepts, and questions?

Based on perplexity.ai , humans are generally better at creating original ideas, concepts, and questions compared to current AI systems.

  • Humans possess unique traits like creativity, emotional intelligence, contextual understanding, and intuition that allow them to generate truly original ideas and concepts.?1 2 3
  • While AI can generate novel ideas by recombining existing information, it cannot think divergently, make intuitive leaps, and create content that reflects human experiences and emotions.?1 2 3
  • There are concerns that AI-generated content can be biased, lack a distinctive voice, and fail to consider important cultural and ethical factors.?2
  • Humans can adjust their approach based on the audience and purpose, whereas AI is limited by its pre-programmed parameters.?2
  • The debate around whether AI can truly be "creative" or "original" is complex, as the definition of originality is subjective. However, the search results suggest that humans currently have an edge in this regard.?3 4
  • Ultimately, the most effective approach may be a collaborative one, where AI supports and augments human creativity, rather than replacing it entirely.?1

In summary, the search results indicate that while AI can assist in idea generation, humans are better equipped to create truly original ideas, concepts, and questions by leveraging their unique cognitive and emotional capabilities. The human ability to think divergently, consider broader contexts, and infuse content with creativity and personality gives them an advantage over current AI systems in this area.

AI is not using your brain. Thus AI will make you more stupid than asking the question. AI = ARTIFICIAL = FAKE AI = INTELLIGENCE = BRAINS ABILITY TO LEARN AI = NOT ABLE TO LEARN Hopefully, humans who rely on AI will stop before the machine generates the most stupid statement of all: SHOOT PUPPY.
