Humanness

Today I had a surprise visit from someone! No, it was not my V.P flying all the way to the North nor the Premier of the Northern Territory. It was one of our Housemaids Lily, whose last working day was yesterday and will be going back to her hometown in Taiwan.

For the past 4 months that I am here, I have known Lily as one of our team members and also, as the one who takes care of my apartment, once a week. We have exchanged pleasantries, and I found her to be very diligent and polite.

Today she came to say Goodbye which I thought was a very nice gesture from her. But, what blew me off was that when she opened her bag and took our two containers with some sort of food inside. She explained that she had always seen Coconut Water, in my refrigerator (which I often buy from Woolworths) and that she decided to make me a Taiwanese dessert with coconut milk.

It is such an incredible human gesture coming from someone whom I knew only as one of my team members. No more than that.

This world is full of beautiful people. You just need to appreciate the goodness in them. Often times I have found such humble and “unnoticed” people to have far better behavior and the understanding of kindness and the value of culture.

Kindness is within everyone. I recently read that people and hiring teams want to see faces on LinkedIn. My face shows pain and my eyes my spirit which old traditions say out of respect needs to be hidden in a way. It is my best photo after long term pain. So please be kind.

Hi Michael, Greetings from France. Nice story especially that this happened on her last day. However I am sure that she would have not done that if, yourself, had not been a great person and gave her all the respect she deserved . Well in line with the guy I have known 34 years ago in Duba? and Muscat and had such a great carrer.
