NLP and Artificial Intelligence: touching the Human Side with Humour

I am an 80's kid. When we used to think of Robots in the movies in the 80's they used to be a tin contraption rolling around - the 1st characteristic that came to mind was that Robots don't have feelings, they can't understand feelings, they can't express feelings. We have come a long way from that!

While it still may be true that Robots don't have feelings, as in it won't bear a grudge against you for not accepting their advice / or calling it a name / or interrupting it rudely! But it can definitely understand and express feelings quite accurately! The rapid development of the NLP (Natural language processing) models, and GPT (Generative Pre-trained Transformer) models that are fueling the current AI boom, ensure that!

Natural language processing (NLP) and machine learning are two powerful technologies that are transforming the way we interact with computers. But while they can be used to solve complex problems, they don’t have to be all serious! Here, we explore some of the funnier applications of NLP and machine learning, giving it a more human dimension.?

Chatbot Comedy?

Chatbots have become increasingly popular in recent years, as a way for people to interact with computers more naturally. While many chatbots are designed for practical purposes such as customer service or information retrieval, some of them have been programmed to provide comedic relief. For example, Microsoft created a bot named Zo that is designed to make jokes on Twitter. It has even been known to respond cheekily when asked questions like “What’s your favorite color?”?

Generating Memes with AI?

Memes have become an integral part of internet culture in recent years—and now AI is getting involved! Researchers at Carnegie Mellon University developed an algorithm that can generate memes from text input by using natural language processing and deep learning techniques. The team tested their algorithm by creating memes from classic books such as Alice in Wonderland or Pride & Prejudice—the results were hilarious!??

?Creating Cartoons with GANs?

Generative adversarial networks (GANs) are algorithms used for generating new data based on existing data sets. Recently researchers at NVIDIA used GANs to create realistic-looking cartoons from text descriptions of characters and scenes—a process they call “text-to-image synthesis”. The results were surprisingly good – so much so that it was hard to tell which images had been generated by AI versus hand-drawn ones!?

?From humorous chatbots to cartoon-generating algorithms, NLP and machine learning offer endless possibilities for having fun with technology! Who knows what funny applications will come next?
