In One of my recent Risk workshops for GIGA project in middle east, we have identified the typical risk nowadays which is availability of the manpower resources , this risk contributes to almost 40 to 50% of the overall risk profile of any project in the middle east.
The Middle East economy is flying with a lot of giga projects in KSA / UAE /Qatar, and all projects suffers.
In the risk workshop, majority have proposed a lot of mitigation plans from business point of view Ex: -
?? Mass Recruitment campaigns
?? Contract a specialised manpower supply agency.
?? Increase the rate to attract the calibres…
?? Maximize the usage of hybrid contract (Remote working)
?? Subcontract part of the work to other entities.
?? Developing long-term workforce plans, maintain relationships with a diverse pool of contractors and workers from different countries ….

But no one has looked into the real risk, which is the #human himself???!!!!
All of the above is just looking into the Manpower resource from cost point of view as dollar figure only. While still the main root of the problem is the human himself, & no one is looking into that
Behind This human resource or candidate there is a family, ambition, career path, requirements, development ….etc.
He can leave you immediately for higher salary, or if he is not comfort with the work conditions, or if he is not getting what he expected for his career and his own development…etc.
When you deep dive into this risk , you will find the main cause of the risk is not the employee himself, It Is the business culture & how they deal with the employee,
all companies nowadays are just looking to the employees as dollar figure, they don’t want to invest any more, & all are having short term plan.

So, before searching for candidates to work, let’s have long term human resource management plan in this dollar figure of the candidate rate, include % for the development like training and apprenticeship programs. Partnering with universities or technical institutions to create a talent pipeline is another viable approach.
Organizations should focus on creating clear career progression paths and succession planning. Offering leadership development programs and mentorship initiatives can also motivate employees to stay long-term.
Companies can improve work-life balance by offering flexible work hours, wellness programs, and ensuring that employees have access to rest periods. Additionally, focusing on mental health support can help mitigate burnout.
AI and humanizing the work
But one of the gentlemen in this workshop came up with the new idea which is rooming around nowadays, which is maximizing the use of AI to reduce this risk.
It is viable solution from business point of view, but again it is looking into pure cost…
So why we cannot look into it from other human perspective, lets develop the human resources for the activities that AI cannot do, or develop them to use the AI itself in betterway.
?? Instead of creating 10 reports by 2 persons, use power Bi & use those persons to do data analysis.
?? Instead of suing document controllers, use automated workflow for submission of the documents, & use those calibres in developing the document workflows connecting with progress…cost…etc.
?? Instead of sending 150 mails in a day, and waste your time, use the MS workflows in auto reply, arrangement, summarize the important mails, & you can use it to draft your reply or your decision
?? Instead of having 10 draftsman, 7D-Ai tool can give you on spot the model, with all dimensions up to virtual reality, & and those drafts men can be trained on how to develop this Ai tool into different project types.

All of that either cost point of view or Ai point of view is against human requirements, so please look into your business, project, profit…etc from human perspective,
Look into what you can offer to others, how you can help people finding job, howe you can help them developing themselves.
At the end how you can make life better is the main objective of any business.
