War and Peace & Challenges of Remote Work

On?Wednesday, I drew attention to the lack of religious freedom and government domination of?religion in Russia being a?predictor of war.?

"One of the greatest writers on peace was?Leo Tolstoy, the author of 'War and Peace', who realized that peace had a spiritual dimension that could only be expressed through the individual,"?says 2018 Global Business & Interfaith Peace Gold Medalist and our partner?Steve Killelea,

"History, [Tolstoy] said, had been about finding evil and attempting to destroy it, but in the process of destroying evil, we become the very thing we are seeking to destroy. He said we have been doing this for thousands of years and without success; therefore, we need to find a new approach – we need to find peace within," says?Steve, founder of the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP), in a new interview (read?full interview).

Steve argues we are at a tipping point.

"Personal peace is important because all power structures, in the end, are composed of people, and serene leaders are more likely to make peaceful decisions!"

- Steve Killelea

We need more business leaders like Steve - please let me know ASAP of any CEOs you'd like to?nominate?for the 2022?Global Business & Interfaith Peace Award.

Making it Personal

On Thursday, I attended a dinner in NYC honoring former?US Vice Presidential Candidate Sen. Joe Lieberman, a consistent observer of the Jewish sabbath, for putting faith above politics. At my table were business?execs from a number of top companies.?One shared that early in the covid lockdown, one of his 20-member team's sister was infected and nearly died. That led them to begin their regular zoom meetings with a moment of silent prayer for her (as each felt led). He said that transformed their work group?into a caring team that functioned better than any he'd been on.

Reinforcing that point, in today's?Authenticity & Connections?blog, Kent Johnson argues that?remote work increases the need for freedom of religion and belief.?Indeed, in a world seemingly spinning out of control, practicing the freedom of religion or belief in your workplace through a prayer or an act of selfless love of neighbor is the foundation of peace.

On Friday, I attended a prayer service for Ukraine at Xavier High School in Manhattan. Here's their opening?prayer,

Peace, Shalom (???????), Salam (????), Hépíng?(和平),?Mir (Mир)!?

Brian Grim (葛百彦, ???? ????, Браян Гр?м)

RFBF President

RFBF's approach to advancing religious freedom for all is?"building it" through relationships of mutual trust, which we call?covenantal pluralism. Religious Freedom for All --> Peace.??
