Celebrating some of the risk takers, who took a chance on Work 20XX, setting the foundation for it's future. I'll be forever grateful to Meg Bear , Maribel Lopez , Adrienne Rowe , Shani Harmon , Tracy Hawkins and all my podcast guests for sharing their knowledge with our community. Being a guest on my show isn't easy, never know where might go, from the Ship of Theseus to the the fable of the Rice and the Chessboard. One thing's for sure, everyone learns something new, and we have a few smiles and laughs along the way. Day late, but not a dollar short.

Humanity

Well-being and our emotional state matters as much as our physical health. We should be able to have open conversations about emotional health and have plans in place to help people when they find themselves struggling. - Meg Bear

We have more choice and options to problem solve in ways we couldn't before. Digitization, of work, information, and process flows, opens up options that weren't available before. Better understanding the impacts of mental health, outside challenges (child care and elder care to highlight a few), and focus on outputs over attendance, will enable progressive organizations to thrive in an increasingly acute environment of talent shortages.

As Dorothy once said, we're not in 1930's Kansas any more.

Communication

You and I have both had the opportunity to interview some really interesting business leaders, senior business leaders in tech and outside of tech. And I think if you asked any of them today, the most important thing that they need to do, it is that level of communication. Maribel Lopez

Communication, PR and Comms, Info-Wars, Propaganda, Signaling, Conspiracies, Messaging, Talking Points, etc. In business, politics and wars, victory is often won or lost on the communication front, as much as if not more,?sometimes in spite of, what's happening on the factory floor, board rooms, halls of congress, or the front lines. Invest in your communication skills. Especially in leadership positions. Makes all the difference in the world.

Purposeful

For people managers on the front lines, we talk a lot about purposeful presence. When you’re congregating your team, what is the reason? How do you make those decisions? - Adrienne Rowe

Have a reason to get together. Make it worth everyone's while. Be cognizant of the team as a collection of individuals, each with different things happening in their lives outside work, at different times. Don't be afraid to experiment, and it doesn't work, try something else. Sage advice from someone who's been making workplaces better since long before the Pandemic, starting with her time at the Happiest Place on Earth.

Decision Making

Go back to decision-making, what is an organization? It’s kind of a decision-making machine. And the quality of decisions makes a huge impact on the performance of that organization. And where do we make decisions? In dialog with each other, which is meetings. - Shani Harmon

Meetings done right, huge positive lever for productivity, performance and employee experience. Meetings done wrong, huge (negative) lever for productivity, performance and employee experience. Is your organization doing meetings right? Or the same old lame way? It take more than an agenda and summary to deliver an effective meeting, but those are two steps often forgotten. We get into the good, the bad, and the ugly, in this conversation with one of the preeminent experts in the field. Listen and Learn. And then grab some of that productivity off the floor. I did.

Etiquettes

We've always been a global company. We just didn't have the right behaviors and etiquettes in place. - Tracy Hawkins

Rotating recuring meeting start times to be more 'global' friendly. Looking for async opportunities, via shared doc or other means, to minimize the time zone effect. Actively and intentionally querying ideas from those outside the meeting location or time zone. Just a few of the small actions organizations can institutionalize to get more contributions from more members of the team, especially those outside the primary time zones.
