The Humanitarian Crisis

The other day, sitting on my toilet seat, I wept at the current state of humanity! We might be at an all-time low in our communal level of decency and simple human courtesy. To think, I only realised how far we have descended from normalcy over my recent addiction to watching animal channels on YouTube. In one of the clips I watched, it was so calming to see domesticated pets like Dogs and Cats get along under a roof without any animal harbouring the thought of obliterating the other! Can we in the human kingdom even boast of such non-threatening relationships among family members? Our current reality is that of “never heard of” aggression among relatives. Neighbours can now watch one another in suffrage from starvation without extending a hand of fellowship, even on basic amenities such as food and water!?

In another clip, I saw this mother Duck, jealousy guarding her young adorable duckling with the ever-protective motherly instinct. Again, fellow humans, can we boast of enough protection for the innocence of our children? Parents are increasingly realising that schools are no longer a safe haven for their wards! Far from the fear of peer-to-peer bullying of kids by their mates to outright exploitation of their innocent minds by adults who should know better. The kids who may have narrowly escaped the possibility of extermination in the womb since their right to life is contestable might be facing greater risk at institutions of learning.?

As I switched tabs on my device from these YouTube videos of animal conviviality to actual human news, I could not help but notice the sharp contrast. Our current levels of integrity and honesty cannot even pass for average. We now live in a world where you cannot trust LinkedIn bios and even curriculum vitae are buffeted with bogus claims and heaps of fine-tuned lies. Companies also have reported manipulated filings and tweaked stocks to paint a non-existent reality!

Academics now have commonplace plagiarism, and originality is as scarce as water in deserts! Religious bodies, once revered, have become a scum of the society with bizarre scandals perpetuated in the name of the deity they serve! As a generation, we have told too many lies! Media has become a vendetta, elections are manipulated, and many optics in this Artificial intelligence world with ill-fated intentions aimed at painting evil narratives!???

There is an urgent need for humans to be humans once again! In a world where none of us is getting out alive, as opined by Walter Breuning, our survival can only rest on our humanity!

1 年Thanks for sharing. This is a great read and lately I have been reflecting and learning on relationships dynamics and why we behave, relate with others as well, and it’s been an interesting learning curve.
