False posts about French riots spread online
There’s been a lot of talk on AI generated images spreading - fake images and videos, contributing to misinformation.?
However, recently - as a result of a 17 year-old being shot by police in France - with images and videos of the “unrest” following the incident spreading, questions whether these are true have occurred. Although many are real, some are fake - but not AI generated -, their sources range from films set in France to Fast and Furious 8, as well as old footage.?
These fake imagery spreading alongside real footage have the potential to increase tensions throughout several cities in the country. ?
Elon Musk blames data scraping by AI startups for his new paywalls on reading tweets (+So where are we supposed to go now?)
Don’t have a Twitter account and you still want to read tweets? Now you have to sign up to access any. And if you like to binge read them, you now have to pay for Twitter Blue verified to access more than 600 posts a day.?
In the past several months Musk has been attempting to monetize Twitter by announcing a three tier API change and the revamped $8 per month Twitter Blue for verification scheme.

On many social media platforms there have been changes, add-ons for payment and purchases, and in many ways this is the end of an era.?
It is possible that “social web is changing in three crucial ways”. These would be “from public to private:[...] from growth and engagement [...] to increasing revenue no matter the tradeoff: and it’s turning into an entertainment business”. ?
Many of the later popular apps and platforms have returned to connecting people like Discord, however there are also those who don’t feel as though any existing platform lives up to their hopes and wishes for social media.?
Apple plans to launch a monitor that stays on when you shut down your Mac
The monitor which Apple will introduce to the Mac can act as a smart home display when the device is either shut down or “goes to sleep”.?
At least this is what Bloomsberg reporter Mark Gurman claims.?
A new monitor with these smart home capabilities would run on a chip, like Studio Display and seen in the iPhone. With iOS 17 and iPhone 15 being released later this year, and iOS 17 introducing a new smart display mode, it’s fair to expect the Mac monitor’s smart display to act similarly.
Although this Mac is not yet officially announced, Gurman predicts that it will be released sometime next year. It is also possible that Apple will switch from the company’s Lighting port for the AirPods charging case to USB-C.?

1 年Newspapers that have paywalls and subscriptions introduce enough friction for me to decide not to read them. Perhaps Twitter's move ends up making the business more profitable, but at the same time it is likely to reduce the cultural impact of the platform in the worldwide information streams as less people participate in a pay-to-read platform. Information and knowledge should be free and accessible to anyone no matter the economic or social background. Otherwise, we are building societies with unfair chronical inequalities.
