Human Scale Facilitation
?Human Scale Facilitation has been created out of my own experiences in the nonprofit and for-profit worlds. Be prepared for me to be a little vulnerable in this article.
Organizational change is typically approached from the top down, unfortunately, after significant problems have occurred. I'm proposing something radically different: Human Scale Facilitation. This methodology isn't born from academic theory or boardroom strategizing—it emerges from the trenches of my personal struggle, transformation, and growth.
The Power of Personal Experience
My journey to developing Human Scale Facilitation didn't start in a business school . It began in scarcity, where every decision was weighted with consequence, and every misstep felt magnified by dark circumstances. A mistake, financial or otherwise, felt like there was no way to recover from it. ?In my past this background has been a liability. Now it's become my greatest asset in understanding the real challenges leaders face.
Like many leaders I now work with, I've intimately known the grip of imposter syndrome. That persistent voice questioning whether you truly belong in your role, whether you're "qualified enough" to guide others. I've stood in presentations feeling like an outsider who somehow slipped through the cracks, all while maintaining a facade of confidence.
But here's what makes this relevant: These experiences aren't unique to me—they're universal threads in the fabric of leadership and is us being human. The difference is that I've learned how to approach these challenges in a safe way that helps people connect with their past selves while building a better future for themselves and their organizations.
From Burnout to Boundaries
Perhaps the most crucial lesson in my journey came through burnout. As a leader who once operated without clear boundaries, I learned the hard way that sustainable leadership isn't about endurance—it's about wisdom. When leaders don't maintain healthy boundaries, they don't just harm themselves; they inadvertently set unsustainable standards for their entire organization. Being busy does not equal being valuable… no matter how much it feels like it does.
This is where Human Scale Facilitation differs from traditional leadership development. We don't just teach theories about work-life balance or stress management—we facilitate a deep understanding of why leaders struggle with these boundaries in the first place. The skill of personal and professional capacity management is hard to adopt at first but is crucial for long term success.

?The Ripple Effect
What I've discovered through my life is that when you help one leader transform their relationship with leadership, you create a ripple effect throughout the organization. It's like introducing a healthy cell into an organism—it begins to influence and transform the cells around it.
This is why I say Human Scale Facilitation acts like an inoculation to company culture. When leaders learn to acknowledge and work through their imposter syndrome rather than hide it, set healthy boundaries that protect their energy and creativity, and lead from a place of authenticity rather than perceived expectations, they naturally create spaces where others can do the same. We can learn to lead thru healthy examples and ensure a culture of sustained open communication.
Why 2025 Needs This Approach
2025 will bring unique stresses and challenges to organizations. We need leaders who are not just strategically competent but emotionally intelligent and resilient. The old model of leadership development—focused primarily on skills and strategies—isn't enough, we can do better.
What makes me the right person to bring this work forward isn't just my professional expertise—it's the authenticity of my experience. I've lived the challenges that many leaders face behind closed doors. I've done the deep work of transforming these challenges into strengths, and now I can guide others through their own transformation journey. ??As many people who have faced these challenges know, we have flashbacks, we need to keep working, proactively, on our challenges.
Human Scale Facilitation is a process to organizational health that begins with the individual. Because when we heal and grow our leaders, we heal and grow our organizations. You are not alone, and working together we can bring forth the confidence and willpower to work on the challenges which prefer to live in the shadows. We can explore solutions to these challenges together.?
I want to bring this training to facilitators in 2025 as well as helping organizational leaders.? Having more people trained in the work will lead to better and more widespread results. Reach out to me and we can talk.
Upcoming LinkedIn Live and other classes to be released shortly.

1 个月Terry, this is so beautifully explained - thank you for sharing your experience to help us understand. As I was reading it occurred to me that so many of the people who are uniquely placed to lead with empathy, kindness and connection are those who struggle with their own boundaries and inner criticism. Empowering those people to become the confident, visionary, creative leaders we need in the world is an invaluable mission. Your compassion and clear-sightedness makes you an inspirational case in point!
