Human connections = Positive culture

Human connections = Positive culture

Creating an environment where everyone enjoys work is a key focus for us here at Stanbrook. We have always placed a strong emphasis on building relationships between employees and creating a supportive, collaborative work environment. However, it's worth examining why this kind of human connection is so essential for creating a positive company culture.

Since the COVID-19 outbreak, we have seen a shift in the behaviors of many. At one point, 49% of people in the UK worked from home during lock-down. And the only human connections you'd have would be with your household, or work colleagues via video chat, email or instant messenger. Transitioning into this new world, where you have face-to-face conversations, is strange for some. But we believe building human connections is essential to creating a positive company culture and here's why.

Human connections build trust and strengthen relationships. When employees feel that their company are invested in their success, they are more likely to trust one another and work together effectively. At Stanbrook we genuinely care about getting to know one another better, and building those relationships. Whether that be having lunch with different team members; or participating in 'extracurricular activities' together. By fostering strong connections, our company can create a more supportive and effective work environment.

Secondly, human connections help to encourage creativity and innovation. When our teams feel comfortable sharing their ideas and opinions, they are more likely to be creative and innovative. It's important to create a safe space, where the team listens without judgement, and feel empowered to speak up.

In conclusion, human connection is essential for creating a positive company culture. By fostering strong relationships between employees, encouraging creativity and innovation, and creating a supportive work environment, a company can build a culture that attracts and retains top talent and supports success.

We will leave you with some top tips to help you build deeper human connections with your team:

  • Practice empathy - Try to consider what the other person’s experience or perspective might be.?
  • Be an active listener - Pay attention to what the other person’s saying. Try to think of what they’re saying and expressing as the most important thing to you.
  • Keep expressing interest - Show in your body language that you are interested. Look at the person...and do not go on your phone when they're talking!
