Human connections - find your tribe!

Now that #ALevel and #GCSE results have been announced and young people are taking the next steps in their careers, I wanted to say it's the people I've met, not the exam results I gained, that has been the most important aspect of my working life.

As we approach the annual Emberson Group Conference at the beginning of September I am reminded that great people are at the very core of our achievements for our customers, and indeed our future plans with them too. I have the enormous privilege of working with world class people, some of whom I have known for a long time. One thing I do know is that people work with people they like, get on with, respect. Human #connections enable organisations, businesses and brands (including your own!) to thrive.

It made me reflect, who are my people…?

So, a shout out to just a few of the people I've met and how I unexpectedly(!) met them for the first time:

·?????? I connected on LinkedIn with a previous colleague I had worked with 18 years ago. That connection led me to meeting Natalie Sweet our now Development Director in Emberson Marketing

·?????? I walked into a meeting room where I met Ian Goodall our now MD in Emberson Marketing 11 years ago

·??????I walked into a traffic safety product factory in Somerset almost 30 years ago and met Claire Bridges our now Client and Operations Director in Emberson Synergy

·??????I walked into a pub in Bath and met Peter Wrayford our Design and Creative Services Director 10 years ago

·?????? I walked into a seminar on a boat(!) in Bristol harbour 25 years ago and met Andy Graham

·??????I joined an interview process 5 years ago and met Helen Webber our now Client and Operations Director in Future Positive - Part of Emberson Group

My message to young people ... whether you had the results you wanted or not over the last few weeks, stay open! Treat everyone with kindness and respect, you never know when you might meet your people.

Time flies Clare Pratt and big thanks to Bev Flanagan for the introduction! Working towards exams is important, but the most important part is what you learn from your journey - how you take that and apply it to what you do. Talent isn't limited to formal recognition, it comes in may forms!

Wow Clare Pratt we must have been children when we met 30 years ago ?? . In all seriousness, if you get great exam results that's fantastic, but you can also have a fantastic career by working hard and gaining experience in different roles. I was in quality control when Clare and I met.
