Human Connection is Not Cancelled
While the world is grappling with the sudden reality of home isolation. One thing is super clear. We as humans crave connection with other human beings.
No matter how far - we may wander away from others, our built-in nature demands human interaction at every possible level.
While in Solitude, Home Confinement or Quarantine.
As we embrace this time to take up more home projects and clear up our thinking space. While also expanding our toolbox of learnable skills, remember that once this passes. We will get back to interacting with other human beings. And will do so for the foreseeable future.
Here are a few insights to get your started on the strongest possible note.
Remember, you are interacting with other human beings. Not computer software, or cold and emotionless electronic devices.
"We are all in the human interaction business."
As such, look up from your device. Acknowledge another human with a friendly glance. No, I’m not asking you to smile at strangers (Unless that’s what you’d like to do – Then by all means, please do it).
What I do ask – is to show a sign of appreciation for the opportunity to see another human being. Not for the sales purposes, or to manipulate or influence. If only to acknowledge that everyone deserves to be recognized for their presence.
Of course above proposal, might sound like a counter intuitive social behavior? After all, how dare we make eye contact with others? Or even grin out a smile?
What if we get frowned upon? Or worse.
I hear you.
Yes, you might get a few frowns or even some looks of confusion. Yet, if you want to improve your corner of the world – then consider this. Acknowledging and greeting others with respect and dignity is an act of courage.
"And with courage, you make all of the other virtues possible."
Final Thoughts
Take courageous steps.
Even more now, than you ever felt or thought comfortable.
Greet others with dignity and respect.
You may get some confused looks in the beginning, until you honor the space for others. While growing into a resonant and community leader, that others love to follow, join and support.
