A Day of Confluence
Dear Descendant,
Today marks a unique confluence of spiritual and cultural renewal, as the ancient Persian new year festival of Nowruz aligns with the sacred month of Ramadan. Nowruz, heralding the spring equinox, symbolises rebirth, renewal, and the rejuvenation of nature. It is a day that transcends cultural and religious boundaries, celebrated by millions around the world, including many in the Muslim and Bahá’í communities.
As we observe Ramadan, a time of introspection, fasting, and spiritual growth, the coincidence with Nowruz invites a profound reflection on the themes of renewal and hope. This juxtaposition serves as a reminder of the diverse tapestry of traditions that enrich our human experience, and the shared values that unite us across different faiths and cultures, often inspired by natural phenomenon, such as the equinox, in this case.
Nowruz and Ramadan together call upon us to embrace the spirit of new beginnings, to reflect on our lives, and to cleanse our hearts and minds for the journey ahead. They urge us to look beyond our immediate circumstances, to the renewal that awaits with patience, perseverance, and faith.
I dream of a future where you have festivals and celebrations that are nature-inspired, rather than divisive. What do you celebrate, in your time?
Ramadan Kareem and Happy Nowruz. May we always tune into celebrations of life and death and renewal coded into life.
