Introducing the Stanford Health Care CEO Report

At Stanford Health Care, we continue to raise the bar at this transformative time in health care. Over the past year, our Integrated Strategic Plan has produced measurable dividends: it has amplified our strengths in research, education, and care delivery—the things that make us uniquely Stanford; it has accelerated our quest to be a digitally driven institution; and it has sharpened our focus on the value we deliver. By placing these three pursuits at the core of our academic medical center’s mission, we are positioned to realize our global vision for Precision Health.

Through a variety of digital initiatives, we are already transforming care delivery. By leveraging the power of AI, for example, a team of Stanford researchers and physicians developed a game-changing technology for stroke treatment that resulted in new national guidelines—expanding the potential treatment window for some stroke victims from six to 24 hours. AI tools today help our doctors diagnose skin cancer; big data tools and informatics are aggregating anonymized data from millions of patients for new consultative services; and our neurosurgeons are harnessing virtual reality to identify the ideal surgical route for brain surgery.

We are also thinking strategically about how and where we grow to meet rising patient demand. Over the past year alone, we have launched new health centers throughout the region, onsite clinics at the workplaces of leading technology employers, Medicare Advantage services, a health plan for our own employees, and more.

The past year’s accomplishments give us ample reason to be proud. Over the next few weeks I will share select articles from the 2019 CEO Report on my blog. Make sure you let me know what you think about them in the comments below.
