The US House of Representatives has finally passed a healthcare bill, bringing President Trump's pledge to repeal and replace Obamacare a stride closer.
The American Health Care Act passed with a vote to spare, after weeks of back and forth within the party to gather enough strength & support.
President Trump predicted this "great plan" would now get Senate backing it needs.
"Make no mistake, this is a repeal and a replace of Obamacare," he said from the Rose Garden at the White House, soon after the vote.
Its safe passage through the US lower chamber provides the new president with his first legislative victory, three months into his term.
And it marks a remarkable turnaround after the bill was left for dead in March when Republicans were unable to agree on its provisions.
But it was a close-run thing - Republicans needed 216 votes in the House and it passed with 217. No Democrats voted in favor
Round one of the battle over Obamacare repeal is in the books. Round two is set to begin, with the opponents more powerful and the obstacles more imposing.
It's worth remembering that passage of the Republican healthcare plan in the House of Representatives was supposed to be the easy part L. House Speaker Paul Ryan had a sizable majority at his disposal and the political tools to reward support and punish.
Still, a win is a win. It wasn't pretty. It may not last. But Mr Trump and the Republican House leadership will take it.
It is not unknown how much the revised bill will cost, nor how many people will lose current coverage
But Republicans viewed it as an overreach of the federal government and said patients had less choice and higher premiums, ok folks sit tight let’s see what happens from here.

7 年Since even the Republicans in the Senate recognize House version is DOA, and that they must start from scratch, what victory was had? No CBO score, no attempt to measure impact, no one knows what is in the bill, and nothing that resembles anything a Senate would approve is cause for celebration? So desperate for a photo op on White House lawn? Is logic that the electorate is too stupid to recognize the hollowness of this vote? "They will think we honored our commitment to eliminate Obamacare and provide something better... SAD. Next, maybe, Romney will re-explain how the plan he initiated in MA was nothing like subsequent Obamacare. A man who should have been President, couldn't be honest enough to say it worked and still get through his own party primary. Like all, I hope a plan comes out of the Senate that improves upon healthcare. But the celebration of the House plan/vote seems too much like a toddlers first successful potty session. The shit landed where it was supposed to, but it is still shit. Imagine the party if something meaningful was accomplished!
