A Hug from God

I pray that Christ will make his home in your hearts through faith. I pray that you may have your roots and foundation in love, so that you, together with all God's people, may have the power to understand how broad, and long, how high and deep, is Christ's love. Yes, may you come to know his love - although it can never be fully known - and so be completely filled with the very nature of God.
Ephesians 3: 17-19 (TEV)
When Charles H Spurgeon, Britain's famed Baptist preacher of the nineteenth century, was walking along a country lane with a friend one day when he noticed a weather vane which was topped by the word "God is love." Spurgeon remarked to his companion that he thought a weather vane an inappropriate medium for such a message, since weather vanes are changeable and God's love is constant.
"I don't agree with you, Charles," his friend replied. "You misconstrue the meaning. What that weather vane is telling us is that whichever way the wind blows, God is love."
Friend, God loves you no string attached. God's love for you in unconditional. God loves you when you are loveable as well as when you are unlovable. God has loved you from the moment you were born, and will continue to love you to the moment you take your last breath. God loves you on wonderful days and challenging days. God may dislike some of your actions, but God always loves you - nonetheless!
There was a time when I was having a challenging time in my parish ministry responsibilities and one day as I was driving into town I sensed I was receiving a huge hug. And I was the only one in the car. Right there and then I realized God was hugging me. The message I interpreted was God saying, "I am with you. I love you. Trust me. I know your situation. Relax. I am taking care of you. I really do love you. I have your back." I was moved to tears of joy, making it challenging to see to drive, and was grateful that I only had one more mile to drive until I reached my destination.
Thus, my friend, I hope you are able to fully understand and appreciate how broad, how long, how high, how deep, how wide, is God's love - for you! Yes, for you! May you come to know this love that surpasses knowledge - that you may be filled to the measure of all fullness of God.
Yes, receive and be grateful for God's hugs of love!
