Hudson Institute of Coaching & Dorothy Siminovitch

I've been coaching since 1996 and still, it feels like "yesterday" that I started. People "say" that I've accomplished great things-and, still, a recent great accomplishment for me is the invitation to join Hudson Institute of Coaching.

I' ve been fortunate enough to start and create partnerships that resulted in two coaching schools focused on gestalt based coaching. In doing a lifereivew-I find all that has happened in these last twenty years sort of startling, inspiring and heartwarming. First, I am thrilled at those seekers of coaching knowledge who found the first program on gestalt coaching when I was in Cleveland. In the uncertainty of life, I could never have predicted that a leadership disruption would have me joint venture with marvelous colleagues in Istanbul. Our ICF approved program (https://lnkd.in/gCWv9Cpj) is now in its 15th year and we are so proud to be locally and globally known, I am grateful for that world who inspired me to write "A Gestalt Coaching Primer: The Path Towards Awareness Intelligence", 2nd edition. I am grateful to ICF-Toronto for bestowing such a beautiful award, the 2023 Lifetime Achievement Award in Coaching Excellence.

With all of that, what makes Hudson Institute of Coaching so exciting? First, it is a true pioneer in the coaching industry. Started by Frederick Hudson, Ph.D. and Pam McLean, Ph.D., MCC-it is a world recognized authority on adult development and the transitions that call for resilience, courage and creativity. In a commitment to deep learning, Hudson Institute has truly outstanding, diverse and brilliant faculty as well as a delivery infrastructure that reveals managerial moxy.

It's new-I will take several months with a needed onboarding process-but, I already feel a shift that invites a larger perspective and asks for the why, the what and the why-not? I also know that Hudson Institute has long been doing deep and revered work where participants explore perspectives, hidden bias and outdated habit patterns. Maybe it's the geography of Santa Barbara-but, there is a spirit of "can-do" in such surprising ways that are cognitive, emotional, spiritual and artistic. People come as participants seeking deep learning whether this involves coach certification and/or being relaunched in the next stage of their life.

But, one more thing-"diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging" are not just words at Hudson Institute of Coaching. They are embedded in working to bring together as many different perspectives as possible-and this is a challenge. Similarity bias is so subtle that we have to be obvious in saying-I invite you becasue you are a different voice, There is a welcoming that is the experience that inclusion and belonging call for. It' a huge invitation to embrace-but, I feel like I received a passport to a new country where the major geography to be explored is our internal vastness. The greatest courage required is to extend across our interpersonal/group/identity differences and find ways to do the work that will make our world, in our many different facets but interconnected world-better in health and possibility.

We ARE what our world needs. And there are many of us wishing to make a difference that is need. As the great poet Rumi was known to say:

"Stay awake-it is easy to go to sleep"..., stay connected.

This work of coaching truly matters...
