Hubert Humphrey: Dreamer and Rebel

Hubert Humphrey: Dreamer and Rebel

I recently interviewed Hubert Humphrey on my show Power Players which airs on my podcast The Cardone Zone.

Humphrey revolutionized the way insurance was sold through relationship marketing.

He launched World Marketing Alliance which became one of the largest independent marketers of financial services products in the world.

Hubert explained to me that his mission is to help people improve their lives by increasing their income by becoming an entrepreneur selling insurance, financial products, and services.

Humphrey grew up one of four children in a lower-middle-class family in Macon, Georgia. He describes himself as a dreamer since he was a kid. He says that he always had confidence, and he wanted to be someone and pursue success.

He firmly believes that by publicly declaring his dream to succeed to his family over and over again put pressure on him to push himself forward.

He says, “A dream is a seed. Nurture it. Grow it.”

Hubert enrolled in college to become an engineer and said that would have been the death of him. When his wife became pregnant with their first child though, he left school. He then started to work on the railroad as a conductor and spent the next 17 years there.

During that time he was always looking for something more. He studied his business idols and read industry books to find inspiration. One of the companies that impressed him was IBM. From their success, he learned to “act as if”. Hubert explains, “Act as if you are already there.

IBM had created a template or vision of how they wanted to function and be thought of once they were fully established. Then they developed a vision of how the company would act. And then they acted that way from day one.

Humphrey credits his time working for the railroad as one of his keys to success.

He says that something has to happen to make you so dissatisfied that it creates drive. You have to try or cry. He says there is a magic to trying.

He tried Amway but wasn’t successful at it. But from his experience, he learned the mindset and recruitment systems that he would then incorporate into the insurance industry.

It was at this time, he started to think about money. “If you want to be in business, be in the money business,” he says.

Hubert says he had a day on the railroad in his mid-twenties that was his wakeup call and decided he couldn’t be stuck anymore. He had no money and no connections and it took him 13–14 years to get out of the railroad industry.

He claims he was never anxious about it, but frustrated. Frustration is fertilizer. It means the situation can be solved, it just hasn’t yet.

Talking about the present, he assesses the economic condition of the middle class. His observations:

—There is a big change going on in middle America.

This class considers themselves poor now.

—People want to know about money and the game of money.

—People want an education about money.

-—People want value for their dollar.

—They want to be an entrepreneur.

—The internet has created the opportunity for people to easily create businesses and many, many e-commerce stores have opened online because of this.

Humphrey’s work has produced billions of dollars and has touched millions of people. He has built an entrepreneur based company that is inflation proof and recession proof. He says he has no regrets.

His choices and path he took have lead him to be the person he is. He wouldn’t change a thing.

He also doesn’t compare himself to anyone except himself and says, “The new you has to beat the old you.”

Hubert doesn’t believe in competition as it becomes a closed loop in comparing yourself and that it’s a good way to go out of business. Instead, he wants to dominate.

His advice to those starting out, “Be the best you can be. If the problem is big enough and the solution is big enough, you will be successful.”

If you’re ready to be the best you can be, come join me for 10X Growth Conference 3—the largest entrepreneur event in the world.

Be great,
