Huawei was founded in 1987 by Ren Zhengfei, a former Chinese military engineer. The company was only known to the international public from the early 2000s, thanks to its significant investment in communication technology. Today, the company is considered one of the largest technology providers in the world, with a revenue of over $136 billion in 2019.
In a short amount of time, Huawei became a company that values speed and capacity in high technology, which allowed the company to turn the tide in its history. Originally, Huawei was a company that sold telephone switches, but quickly diversified into other areas such as computer networks, smartphones, and communication equipment.
1999 / From Asia to Europe In 1999, Huawei began its global expansion by opening its first office in Europe, in the city of London. This expansion was driven by the company's desire to become known abroad and compete with international rivals. This strategy paid off, as in 2005, Huawei became the second-largest supplier of telecommunications equipment in the world, surpassing giants like Nokia and Ericsson.
Huawei then became one of the first smartphone manufacturers in China, selling millions of devices each year. The company's products, notably smartphones, quickly gained popularity overseas, particularly in Europe and Asia.
2011 / Investment in R&D In 2011, Huawei started investing heavily in research and development, a strategy that allowed the company to design revolutionary products such as borderless smartphones and Kirin processors. The company also became a major supplier of 5G technology, which has become a major commercial and technological rivalry between the US and China.

However, in 2019, Huawei was placed on the blacklist by the Trump administration in the US, thereby banning American companies from working with the Chinese technology giant. This situation weakened Huawei's position in the international market. Nonetheless, the company continues to appear at the top of global rankings in innovation and patents.
2022 / An Innovative Company Today, Huawei is one of the leaders in 5G, providing equipment to some of the largest telecommunications operators in the world. The company has also become one of the largest smartphone manufacturers, with a global market share of 16.9% in 2021.
Aside from smartphones, Huawei has also launched other revolutionary products such as MateBook laptops and smartwatches. The company is also investing in artificial intelligence, virtual reality, and cloud technology, to build a complete ecosystem of technology products.
However, Huawei still faces many challenges, including growing concerns about data security, privacy, and risks associated with 5G. The company must continue to strengthen technologically and innovate to ensure its position as a leader in the high technology market.
