HT Load Break Switch with Surge Diverter - A customized solution

Working with a multitude of customers, I get to understand a lot of practical difficulties. As a manufacturer , I feel it is my duty to ensure the customer gets a optimum solution with minimum economic impact.

Today I present you a simple case which is encountered by a lot of customers and how we worked on it. The customer has a 22kV HT feeder coming from the utility . Due to erratic nature of supply, there are instances of surges which eventually damage the equipment . The customer had a maximum demand of 457 kVA with a 750 kVA TRF . Initially, the installer recommended to use a Vacuum Circuit Breaker with UV & OV Protection to overcome the problem of surges . However, this was not a correct solution as the momentary surges were not detected and sensitive electronic equipment was always under stress .

The customer thought of adding surge suppressors to the network and the solution seemed to work . However, they needed to changed frequently and the cost of replacement was becoming prohibitive . Our experts then visited the customer to understand the problem in depth . It was decided that instead of surge arrestors , we will use a R-C Circuit as surge divertor to ensure the equipment are not stressed. As there was no place to add such a system in the existing VCB , it was decided that our PCESSF6 22kV Compact LBS be installed between VCB and TRF with the existing VCB acting as backup . We worked on the solution and the above product was created .

The above system was installed with the customer in June 2015 and has been working effectively . The electronic equipment have been functioning smoothly and frequent tripping has been eliminated . A happy customer is the ultimate salvation for a service provider.
