HSA Inspection focusing on Working at Heights starts next week
Monday November 20th is the start of the Health and Safety Authority's Construction Work at Height Campaign. The Authority have highlighted the large number of fatal and serious injuries that have occurred over the past numbers of years as a result of unsafe working at height practices leading to falls.
47 workers have lost their lives in Irish workplaces between 2013 and 2022 as a result of these unsafe work practices.
The HSA will focus on two keys areas for next weeks campaign:
Scaffolding - Systems of Work / RAMS; Training - CSCS; Inspection & GA3's; Design; Ties and Bracing; Safe access and egress; Loading Bays; Planning for bad and inclement weather; Housekeeping; Quality and standard for components
Roofwork - Systems of Work / RAMS; Collective Protection Measures (Nets, edge protection); MEWPs including certification and GA1 and GA2 forms; CSCS and training; Protection of openings; PPE including Fall arrest and restraint systems.
The HSA's Codes of practice for Access and Working Scaffolds and for Safety in Roofwork, links below, provide detailed guidance on how to help ensure compliance and that your workers are protected when working at height.
