The fourth annual Maritime UK Awards are being held in Hull on Thursday, 9 March, and will feature a keynote address by HRH The Princess Royal, a longstanding champion of the maritime industries.??
The 2023 Maritime UK Awards are being held at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hull on Thursday 9 March.?
Held for the first time in?September 2019 , the Maritime UK Awards are run by the industry for the benefit of the industry. Each year the Maritime UK Awards rotate around the UK, having visited Plymouth, Southampton and Glasgow so far.
With over 800 years of seafaring history, Hull was chosen as the host for the 2023 awards to shine a light on a city that can be considered a global powerhouse for trade and one with a great maritime story to tell. The 2022 awards were held in Glasgow, and saw 500 industry colleagues come together to launch the National Shipbuilding Strategy, UK Shipping Office for Reducing Emissions and Maritime Capability Campaign Office.?
This year, Maritime UK's Patron HRH The Princess Royal will join 600 industry colleagues and partners in government for an evening to celebrate the wonderful world of maritime and the fantastic progress being made by organisations across the sector in support of Maritime 2050.??
The awards follow the first?Maritime 2050 Innovation Forum , being held locally ahead of the awards on 9 March.?

News: Maritime 2050 Innovation Forum announced
Maritime UK is delighted to announce details of the first Maritime 2050 Innovation Forum, due to be held in Hull to coincide with the Maritime UK Awards 2023.
The Maritime 2050 Innovation Forum provides an opportunity for maritime and non-maritime businesses to better understand the market and innovation opportunities forthcoming from the UK Maritime economy including the supply chain for offshore renewables.
Hosted in Humberside, on the day of the Maritime UK Awards, the event will showcase the maritime assets and opportunities in the region including regional research, the Humber Freeport and news from the regional maritime cluster.

Maritime UK is calling on maritime businesses to help the Maritime Skills Commission (MSC) to identify green skills gaps

The findings from this new survey will feed into the Skills for Green Jobs report, will shed some light on the green skills shortage in the maritime sector, and ultimately assist in populating a comprehensive matrix highlighting the demand and supply of green skills training both on a regional and national scale.
The survey is part of the MSC's?Skills for Green Jobs workstream .

The UK’s race to decarbonise the maritime sector has been given another vital boost, with ￡60 million in government funding distributed to innovative companies nationwide developing futuristic green technology. For the first time, the UK government is funding the development of new clean maritime technology across a 2-year period. Companies in 12 regions around the UK will benefit from the cash, generating highly skilled jobs across the nation and positioning the UK as a world leader in green solutions.

Maritime in Parliament
This week, Stephen Morgan MP (Portsmouth South and Shadow Minister for Schools) asked how the government will work with the maritime sector to refocus the Investment Zones programme. The levelling up Minister, Dehenna Davison MP responded:?
"Further to the Chancellor’s Autumn Statement, Investment Zones are being refocused to catalyse a number of the highest potential knowledge intensive growth clusters to boost productivity, growth and job creation. These will be based around the Chancellor's five priority sectors.?We will work closely with Mayors, the Devolved Administrations, local authorities, businesses, and other local partners.
I recently met with Maritime UK, and look forward to further engagement as this policy develops."?
In the Scottish Parliament, Beatrice Wishart, MSP for Shetland Islands and Paul Sweeney, MSP for Glasgow, asked the Scottish Government how many businesses have offered a maritime apprenticeship place in Scotland since 2018 and?what funding is available to ensure that businesses can offer apprenticeships to fulfil any future demand for maritime roles, including skilled offshore wind, workboat, aquaculture and marine construction roles.?
Maritime UK is working with its Parliamentary Caucus to promote the interests of the sector at Westminster and in devolved legislatures.
