HRH Princess Dr. Moradeun Ogunlana Appointed as Energy Sustainability Ambassador of the Africa 2-5-9 Project Initiative

The Africa 2-5-9 Project Initiative, a pan-African platform that aims to promote renewable energy and energy efficiency in the continent, is pleased to announce the appointment of HRH Princess Dr. Moradeun Ogunlana as its African Energy Sustainability Ambassador.

HRH Princess Dr. Ogunlana is the founder and CEO of African Women's Health Project International (AWHPI), a non-profit organization that works to improve the health and well-being of women and girls in Africa through advocacy, education and empowerment. She is also a renowned speaker, author, entrepreneur and philanthropist who has received numerous awards and recognitions for her contributions to global health and development.

As the African Energy Sustainability Ambassador, HRH Princess Dr. Ogunlana will use her influence and network to raise awareness and mobilize support for the Africa 2-5-9 Project Initiative's vision and goals. She will also advocate for the adoption of renewable energy and energy efficiency solutions as key drivers of sustainable development, poverty reduction and climate action in Africa.

The Africa 2-5-9 Project Initiative was launched in 2020 by a coalition of African leaders, experts and stakeholders from various sectors, with the support of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) and other partners. The initiative aims to achieve universal access to clean, affordable and reliable energy for all Africans by 2030, while increasing the share of renewable energy in the total energy mix to 25% by 2025 and 59% by 2050.

The initiative is based on the premise that renewable energy can provide multiple benefits for Africa, such as improving energy security, creating jobs, enhancing health and education, empowering women and youth, fostering regional integration and cooperation, and mitigating and adapting to climate change.

The initiative also recognizes that achieving energy sustainability in Africa requires a holistic and inclusive approach that involves policy makers, regulators, investors, developers, operators, consumers and communities. The initiative therefore seeks to facilitate dialogue, collaboration and action among various stakeholders across the continent and beyond.

The appointment of HRH Princess Dr. Ogunlana as the African Energy Sustainability Ambassador is a testament to her leadership and commitment to advancing renewable energy and energy efficiency in Africa. The Africa 2-5-9 Project Initiative welcomes her to its team and looks forward to working with her to achieve its vision and goals.
