HR, your hiring managers need you

HR leaders, your hiring managers need you.
They need you to help them define what the job is that needs to be done.
They need you to write a job advertisement that is going to appeal to the right type of candidates.
They need you to advise them on where to place the job ads and how long they should be open for.
They need your guidance on how to effectively assess a Resume and how to efficiently screen applications down to a small but strong pool of candidates.
They need your insights on how to construct interview questions that are going to draw out the knowledge, experience and capabilities required for the job from the candidates they interview.
They need your expert advice on the best tools or techniques for assessing future job performance of candidates before making a hiring mistake.
They need you to help them interpret psychometric results and what they mean at a practical level.
They need you to construct reference check questions that are going to get honest insights about a candidate.
They need you to give advice on market rates for the position and how much the salary should be in order to secure the candidate when an offer is presented.
They need your team to quickly turnaround the paperwork when it comes to letters of offers and contracts to avoid the successful candidate taking another offer due to a delay in being able to sign with your organisation.
HR, your hiring managers need a lot from you.
Whilst recruitment and selection may only be one part of your workload, for your hiring managers it can be the highest priority to fill the role quickly and with the right person.
Get it wrong and HR will be called in to deal with performance issues, an unhappy manager, a costly exit exercise and damage to the reputation of the organisation as an employer.
Get it right and the time you have spent on recruiting well will save you time, money, lower your organisational risk and preserve your reputation as an “enabler” to the business.
Move yourself and your team from being a transactional function to one that can be transformational for the hiring manager and the organisation.
Reach out to me if you are in HR and would like to discuss how you can improve the support you provide to your hiring managers and learn about cost effective ways to avoid hiring mistakes.
