HR Trends and Predictions for 2022
Digital HR Leaders Podcast - Bonus Episode | David Green & Ian Bailie | 2022 Predictions

HR Trends and Predictions for 2022

The shift towards a skills-based organisation is transforming the role and impact of HR

2021 exposed a growing chasm between employers, who yearn for a return to significant presence-based working and employees who don’t. This has magnified the importance of the human resources field.

The pandemic has not only accelerated the future of work, it has elevated the role of HR too.

HR’s journey from an inward looking function focused on compliance, process, standardisation and intuition to an outward looking function focused instead on skills, products, personalisation and data has gathered pace in the last two years, and is set to quicken further in 2022. There has arguably never been a more exciting time to work in HR.

Those of you who follow me on LinkedIn are probably aware that I have been publishing an annual set of predictions since 2014. Last year we turned this into a podcast episode, which proved surprisingly popular so we thought we’d do it again to kick off 2022.?

So, in a bit of a role reversal, my colleague Ian Bailie, who is the producer of the Digital HR Leaders Podcast as well as the COO at Insight222, gets to ask the questions and grill me on my 2022 predictions .?As you’ll hear I manage to turn the tables on Ian at several points in the conversation to get his take on a couple of the trends that are destined to set the agenda in 2022.?

In our conversation, Ian and I discuss:

  • How HR is orchestrating the shift to hybrid
  • How leading companies productise people analytics solutions for employees, managers and executives
  • Why the shift towards a skills-based organisation is transforming the role of HR?
  • What HR leaders and professionals should do to prepare for the future?

You can read the accompanying article - Building the Future Organisation: 12 Predictions for HR in 2022 , by clicking on the link or the image below. The article has now been updated to incorporate the two crowdsourced trends: #11 Creating transparency and value with people data (inspired by Amy Armitage, John Boudreau, Dave Ulrich and Lexy Martin amongst others) and #12 Embracing employee activism (inspired by Diane Gherson).

We’ve arrived at an inflexion point about where, when and how work gets done

Thanks for concluding your predictions with a crowdsourced #11 and #12. As David Ullrich points out, there’s so much going on with #peopleanalytics and #HR that asking for input from practitioners, thought leaders and us vendors makes a lot of sense. I’m honored to have my thoughts included that more organizations are and will: 1.???Enable people managers (line managers) with people analytics 2.???Recognize the need for expedited #changemanagement trends I'm seeing from work with customers and our latest survey. Amy points out the need for transparency and John and Dave emphasize the need for creating value by and from HR, and presumably people analytics. If HR and the people analytics teams put their attention on enabling people managers with people analytics, the level of transparency of the use of people data can finally improve. Managers managing people, using people data/analytics will be empowered to inform their decisions on hiring, developing, retaining, improving wellness, improving productivity and more. But enabling them will require change management activities, which currently take a long time – so looking for ways to expedite the change to becoming data-driven, with thoughtfulness (read ethics) is mandatory.
