This time, Christine Carey , our director at evolve , delves into an insightful conversation with Andie Chivers Goudie , the Chief People Officer (CPO) at Catalis Group .

Armed with over 25 years of experience spanning HR, change and project management across numerous sectors, Andie has cultivated a flexible and adaptable approach that perfectly suits the fast-paced world of private equity. Having worked for global corporates as well as smaller private equity-backed organisations, her journey has been diverse and enlightening. Outside her professional life, Andie navigates a lively world as a mother of two active teenagers, a pet parent to three dogs, and an enthusiast of a wide array of sports.

From her rich professional background, Andie brings a unique understanding of the HR landscape. She identifies the substantial challenge for HR today as meeting the varied needs of different demographic groups within the workforce, a task made complex due to the multitude of diverse expectations.

"How do we meet the needs of everybody in the workforce when the expectations are so varied."

This challenge has only escalated in the last five years, with the scope of her role broadening to incorporate evolving demands relating to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG), Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (ED&I), and Employee Value Proposition (EVP).

In the context of HR technology, Andie underscores a critical concern – assuring a return on investment amid a global recession. The contemporary HR function relies heavily on technology, thus balancing investment in tech and tangible returns proves to be a delicate task.

Diversity and inclusion remain pivotal in Andie Chivers Goudie 's HR strategy. She advocates for openness towards ever-changing demands, acknowledging the fact that ED&I agendas can vary globally. Essentially, her approach combines a global strategy with a local touch.

Working in the attractive sector of video games, attracting talent is not the hard part; it's more about providing clarity regarding career development and growth opportunities. Andie is keen on retaining talent by illustrating clear pathways for career progression, which is crucial for individuals seeking growth within the industry.

As for assessing her day-to-day performance, Andie utilises a blend of tangible and intangible markers – feedback, progress, completion of deals, and achievement of significant milestones. Importantly, she highlights the essence of enjoyment as a key indicator of her performance. If she has enjoyed the day, it likely reflects positively in her work.

Lastly, for those embarking on an HR role today, Andie imparts a crucial piece of advice: remain open to change. In her perspective, HR professionals should always strike a balance between commercial demands and employee needs to stay relevant.

"Be open to change and always think about the relationship between commercial demands and employee demands, there has to be a balance to be relevant."

Andie Chivers Goudie ’s insights offer another lens to view the dynamic nature of HR and the evolving role of HR leaders. As we delve deeper into the future of HR with influential figures in our HR Tomorrow series, we are reminded that HR at its core is about understanding and meeting the changing needs of people.

Stay tuned for more engaging discussions and insightful revelations. Until then, let's continue evolving together.
