Main purpose of the position:
Working closely on a daily basis with the Head of Human Resources South Africa, the HR Officer provides support for all HR operations – Patterson Task Grades A to C. This includes but is not limited to: the payroll processes, recruitment and placement process; administration of benefits; performance, employee relations, employment equity, learning training and development and other HR-specific functions. All duties are conducted in close coordination with the Head of Human Resources South Africa and serves to support the overall objective of ensuring quality service and output is provided to the company with regards to HR aspects.
Key responsibilities:
Recruitment
Guide and advise hiring managers on job definition and analysis, recruitment strategies, selection process and job offers
Lead recruitment processes including conducting thorough screening of applicants, interviewing of candidates and recommending short-list of 3 top candidates to hiring managers
Ensure that all employee positions have up-to-date position descriptions, and that all employees are provided the same
Coordinate the advertisement of new positions and ensure that hiring that takes place is aligned to the Employment Equity Plan. Exceptions to this should be discussed and agreed to with the Head of Human Resources South Africa
Perform all administrative functions linked to recruitment
Ensure a recruitment status and tracking report is kept up to date
Coordinate the Onboarding/Induction process for all new employees
Payroll Administration
In collaboration with the Head of Human Resources South Africa, perform payroll administrative functions such as gathering payroll input, verifying VIP payroll reports and finalising payroll
Coordinate timesheet completion process for all employees and check monthly payroll information to ensure accuracy of basic personnel data before payroll is finalised
Support the Head of Human Resources South Africa in undertaking salary reviews
Employee Relations
Advise and support Line Managers on disciplinary procedures as per the Company Disciplinary Code
Assist and give advice on the interpretation, application and implementation of applicable labour legislation and MEIBC Agreements
In close communication and collaboration with Head of Human Resources South Africa, deal with employee grievances and IR issues
Compile ER Reports monthly to determine trends
Stay abreast with developments and changes pertaining to ER best practice, labour legislation and MEIBC Agreements
Continuous report back to the Head of Human Resources South Africa on the climate within the workplace
Represent company at CCMA and Bargaining Council dispute proceedings
Partake in meetings with Shop Stewards and Union Officials as and when required
Daily interaction with production employees
Employee Performance Management
Follow up on administrative formalities linked to the completion of a probationary period for all new employees
Monitor and track due dates for execution and completion of performance appraisals, and alert Head of Human Resources South Africa to any challenges or discrepancies in this regard
Ensure that recommendations for merit increases, salary increments, promotions, reclassifications, demotions, etc. are captured in a timely manner, and are made in accordance with established policies and procedures
Assist in supporting all line managers through training and all necessary support in implementing Performance Management
Exit Management
Coordinate and assist in scheduling and conducting employee exit interviews
Ensure all administration and execution is administered with all facets of employee’s separation
Ensure that all company assets are returned, and check lists completed and signed off
Compile quarterly reports and statistics on resignations
Learning, Training and Development
Coordinate, compile and submit the annual Workplace Skills Plan and Annual Training Report in line with MERSETA requirements
Prepare an annual Training Calendar emanating from Section 4 of the Performance Management Review Template. Have approved and signed off by Head of Human Resources South Africa and publish to the Company. Coordinate training in line with the approved Plan and approved Budget for company training
Ensure Training Registers are kept and evaluations of training effectiveness
Compile monthly Training Report
Compile and keep up to date a Skills Matrix for all positions
Record and keep up to date all documents and certificates in the HR filing system as well as on Sage 300
Employment Equity
Work in collaboration with the Head of Human Resources South Africa to ensure the equitable representation of suitably qualified employees from designated groups in occupational categories and levels within the Company and according to the Employment Equity Plan
Work in collaboration with the Head of Human Resources South Africa to retain and develop employees from designated groups
Work in collaboration with the Head of Human Resources South Africa to implement appropriate training plans and measures to develop employees from designated groups
Administrative Activities
Prepare and Compile monthly HR Reports
Maintain and update employee files and Sage 300 with regards to salary and allocated benefits and allowances, transfers, promotions, completion of probation, termination of service etc.
Support the implementation of all HR strategic goals

Qualifications required:
Minimum academic qualification: A recognised formal Degree or Diploma in Human Resources
Qualifications as an added advantage: A recognised IR qualification
Professional registration: SABPP an advantage
Registered: Skills Development Facilitator
Experience required:
General work experience (years): At least 5 years in the Metal Industry.
HR Generalist experience
HRIS systems an advantage
