HR News

The FTC's proposed non-compete ban has been put on a nationwide hold by a Texas court . The FTC will likely appeal the decision, but existing non-competes remain valid for now.

As we move closer to the November presidential election, employees may be more politically active and vocal than usual. Employers should be mindful that it is a federal crime to interfere with an individual’s ability to vote or attempt to coerce an individual to cast their ballot in a specific way. While banning political talk is not advised, employers can help ease tensions by establishing a culture of respectful discourse. Compliance

Employers with health plans starting Jan 1st and who filed a Form 5500 for those plans, must provide a Summary Annual Report “SAR” to participants by September 30th.

Federal contractors are required to annually report their affirmative action efforts to employ protected veterans by visiting VETS-4212 and submitting a report by September 30th.


Benefits

It’s time for benefit pre-renewal meetings for businesses with a January 1st health plan renewal date. Ask your benefits broker to update you on employee benefits changes and create a renewal season strategy.

Gathering employee feedback with a benefit survey can provide valuable feedback on what your employees value most before making decisions during benefit renewal season.

Employers who have received a Medical Loss Ratio Rebate from their health insurer must disburse the rebate to policyholders by September 30th.


Compensation

Payscale released a new Salary Budget Survey that found U.S. employers are planning for 3.5% pay increases on average next year.


Health & Safety

It’s National Preparedness Month . Do you have your OSHA-required Emergency Preparedness Plan in place? The Occupational Safety and Health Administration requires all employers to document and train employees on their emergency action plan.
