HR Interview- Candidate versus HR:)

HR Interview- Candidate versus HR:)

So you’ve passed the stages, you’ve met the team leader, you’ve passed the home test (that took you a while). You found out about the company and all sounds great.

The product is amazing, there are opportunities for promotion in the future – cool!!

And then… They called you to schedule an interview with the HR Manager!!!!!

So how do make it through this stage???

So as an experienced HR manager I want to shed some light on this and give you the HR managers point of view.

Her goals:

An HR interview is conducted to judge your personality, your strengths, your weaknesses, your capability to handle the role, to check your background, and to understand if you're the right fit for this job.

To meet and get to know you a little better and understand if you are suitable for the position. How you fit in with the team? Are you a team player

Do you really want this position? How ready are you for this role and how you can contribute to the company.

Are you a stable employee looking for a long term role.

Your goal:

To let her get to know you better- you should understand that you are Checking each other.

You also want to know if you want that company – so..

You must understand that you are the candidate and she is the interviewer, Let her lead you and know when is the right time to impress her.

Understand the company and what it does and exactly, what your role entails and why you are perfect for the role. You should convince yourself before.

Answer to the point. Do not talk about anything that is not of relevance. Asking relevant questions- If you choose to, you can ask about the company or any other question that is playing on your mind. It is alright to ask questions. In fact, you should ask, as that gives out a signal that you are serious about the job.

Be sharp in the interview – if she asks you a question and you get lost, know how to go back to her point.

You come prepared with what you want to say – make a list of important things. Be organized and to the point.

For each point always have an example ready that clarifies it – make it flow.

Breaking the myth – But! If you connect to the company, the technologies, the people – make that clear, it’s not embarrassing to say “I like the Company , the people and would love to be a part of the organization”.

You want to make sure you are both on the same page - feel free to ask any questions that are unclear. What is the specific definition of the role and what is your day to day like. Who will be your direct manager if you still unclear. And what is the exact company technology stack.
