In 2024, we have made the decision to reintroduce our newsletters.

For new subscribers, we are an HR consultancy specializing in Performance Management and Employee Experience.

Through this newsletter, our goal is to provide you with the latest insights in various HR aspects, drawing from our research and experience gained through collaboration with several SMEs across South Africa.

We will provide monthly updates in the following categories:

1. HR numbers

This statistic may appear daunting for a Founder, but it is more beneficial to be aware of it than to remain uninformed. Human experiences often involve misalignment with others, and the workplace is no exception.

Through our state-of-the-art performance management system, we observe a standard ?weekly misalignment rate of 5 to 10% among team members compared to manager expectations.

You might be curious about what we mean by misalignment. This encompasses negative sentiments when team members reflect on their week of work, as well as constructive feedback provided by managers.

The reassuring aspect is that identifying misalignment on a weekly basis demonstrates proactivity. These issues have not yet escalated into problems; instead, they can be addressed through crucial conversations.


2. New tech in HR

Have you implemented sentiment analysis in a controlled environment with team members?

The most effective way to gauge someone's work performance is by understanding their feelings about work and life in general. A positive outlook often correlates with optimal performance.

In 2023, we developed a sentiment analysis tool using AI technology for our performance management system. We analyze inputs that reflect the team member's weekly work experience, flagging entries identified as negative. At times, the content may be of a personal nature, prompting us to offer counseling with a psychologist. On other occasions, it may relate to issues with colleagues, leading to the provision of a mediation session with HR. The outcomes vary, but the ultimate goal is consistent – proactively addressing concerns from team members to prevent escalation into more significant issues later on.

As HR, we now feel we have a solid understanding of what transpires on the floor and how everyone is feeling at work. Previously, this seemed like an insurmountable task, primarily due to time constraints in connecting with everyone on a weekly basis.

This performance management approach offers additional positive benefits, including the establishment of a reflection habit, the creation of a safe space for disclosing important matters, and employees taking the lead in their career conversations.
