Will this be the end of Saturday jobs?

Plans to hike the minimum wage could spell doom for the classic Saturday job, warn small businesses. Labour ministers aim to equalise pay for 18-year-olds and older adults, but the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) says this could end part-time gigs at local pubs and shops. FSB's Tina McKenzie recalls these jobs as essential for teaching responsibility and earning your own money. A third of working parents would fancy a term-time only job.

Amazon's latest survey reveals that many workers are dreaming of more flexible jobs, with half of them hoping their bosses will give them a better work-life balance. One in three working parents with young kids said they'd happily take jobs that only require them to work during school term time. Conducted by YouGov, the survey of 2500 working adults shows that almost half are itching for flexibility in their work schedules. Read more here .

BP introduce new policy to help staff escape abusive relationships

BP is stepping up to help employees escape abusive relationships by providing free accommodation and legal advice. Recognising that remote workers might lack a safe refuge from abusive partners, the oil giant has rolled out new support policies. UK-based staff can now access emergency temporary accommodation worth up to £1,500 and receive an hour of legal consultation, all covered by BP. Read more here .

Manager on sick leave for 4 years loses unfair dismissal case

Ms. Henderson, employed by Maximus UK Services, was dismissed after being off sick for over four years due to fibromyalgia. Maximus terminated her employment due to prolonged absence without a foreseeable return, but Ms. Henderson claimed unfair dismissal and disability discrimination. Read more about the outcome here .
