HR & COVID-19

HR & COVID-19

World economy, Industries, Organisations, Employers & Employees everyone in the world have become victims of COVID-19. No one alive on earth had faced this situation earlier in life. Despite of all calculations & speculations there is no prior expertise or experience is available to manage professional or personal life during this time. Nobody has speculated this COVID- 19 will affect overall economy in such bad way which will result in complete lock down for weeks. All we can hope that this crises ends soon and our professional and personal life comes back on track.

But with all optimism, hope & positivity there are few things which remains certain.

COVID-19 will have serious impact on physical, financial, physiological & social health of people from overall world.

Economy will step back by almost 3-4 years due to COVID-19

Present lock-down will have major impact on demand & supply of goods.

World after Covid-19 will be altogether different and every organisation will take time to cope up with it.

In this whole scenario there will be huge responsibility on HR leaders with respect business & people. Managing both of them in crises is tough & daunting tasks. HR leaders will have to be sensitive & think out of the box so that neither business nor people get affected.

Some of the major areas that HR leader will have to look after-

Review your existing manpower with re scaled budget plans for 20-21. Manpower cost is one of the huge cash outflow for organisation. Managing existing manpower & hiring new one would be first tough challenge. Giving opportunity to in house talent via cross functional role can save new hiring cost & with respect to employee they get opportunity to scale themselves. Which will save your new hiring cost; with respect to new hires offers which you have already released we will have to go ahead with that you may ask for salary re negotiation but withdrawing offer will not be the solution. As you can see many posts already coming on LinkedIn where lot of students have lost their campus placements due to this. In this case HR leaders will have to find out alternative solution so that nobody stays unemployed after offer.

New organisational world will require lot of learning, relearning and changing work processes. HR leaders will have to get ready themselves first & then make their employees ready for sudden shift of change. Business will move towards cost optimization & automation this will again lead to people losing their jobs in that case as HR leader how you scale up your current employee through training & development will be task as it again will increase your training & development cost.

Employee engagement will play most crucial part during this tough times HR leader will have to balance between both organizational development & employee’s developments. Crises will create opportunity for team building amongst employees & leaders. As HR leaders there is huge responsibility on our shoulders to make sure our employees & organisation go hand in hand to fight this battle of COVID_19.

Your Thoughts?

Lets find out ways together to find parallel balance between organisation & employee.

Nicely drafted and good points to ponder upon.. from my side There are 2 ways look at 1. BCP in current situation with existing manpower and business forecasting for next 3 quarters and then take a call at board level. 2. Effects after lockdown : HR plays a key role here to set up right direction.
