HQ Relocations Keep Leipzig at Centre of European Energy

Germany’s fastest-growing city, Leipzig, is a major hub for energy companies, which can only be enhanced with the news that the European Energy Exchange (EEX) and European Commodity Clearing (ECC) will move their headquarters to the NEO Leipzig building in 2026.
Both organisations have been key players in Leipzig since 2008 with more than 500 employees in the city, and this announcement further consolidates Leipzig’s reputation in the German and European energy sector.
With around 1,350 green tech energy companies and several renowned research institutions, the Leipzig Region is one of the strongest driving forces in the energy and environmental technology industry.
The European Energy Exchange (www.eex.com) is a leading energy exchange which builds secure, successful and sustainable commodity markets worldwide. As part of EEX Group, it offers contracts on power, natural gas and emission allowances as well as freight and agricultural products.
Peter Reitz, CEO of EEX, says: “Our aim is to create a working environment that provides modern work settings for all our colleagues while also catering for our continuously expanding workforce. The European Commodity Clearing (www.ecc.de) is a central clearing house which specialises in energy and commodity products. ECC assumes the counterparty risk and guarantees the physical and financial settlement of transactions, providing security and cross-margining benefits for its customers.?

NEO (https://neoleipzig.de) is the new work-life quarter in the heart of Leipzig with more than 24,000 sq m of modern office space. The property, built as the “Althoff department store” from 1912, was extensively converted into a multi-tenant mixed-use property in 2024.
Leipzig is one of twelve regions designated by the state as a Smart Digital Initiatives Hub (de:Hub), the Leipzig Region’s focus on Energy and Smart City involves an accelerator programme focusing on smart infrastructure, bringing together various regional cluster organisations.
