HP's Adaptive Endpoint Management
So, what is AEM and what does it mean for an organization to be fully cloud and modern managed??To answer that question, let me share my own recent experience.?A month ago, I made the decision to change companies and embark on a new role.?Aside from being ready for a new challenge, the ability to work remotely was also part of mt decision-making process.?As a new hire coming into HP Inc., I had a first-hand, fully remote experience of an evergreen device deployment via HP IT and its “HP on HP”, or customer zero program.
My new HP machine arrived in a timely manner to my home prior to my first day on the job, at about the same time I received my new HP credentials.?I unpacked my nice new and shiny Elitebook, accompanied by very simple yet concise setup instructions.?By the way, the packaging was almost completely recycled, a nice sustainability win.
Glancing at the instructions, the first sentence was “Welcome to HP Adaptive Endpoint Management”, also internally known as AEM.?Being new to the company, was completely unaware of AEM or what it might do for me as I set up my new machine.?According to the brief setup instructions, all I needed was my machine, my HP credentials, and internet access to start the process.?I was ready to complete my device provisioning process.?After learning more about AEM, I discovered the device shipped directly from the factory and there was zero touch from HP IT resources as everything was already staged for a great “out of box experience” (OOBE).
I turned on the machine and the install process walked me through the OOBE to install the latest version of Windows 10.?Once installed, the device automatically connected and registered with the HP Microsoft Intune instance.?After registration, Intune dropped down the HP Policies for my device and kicked off the install of the standard and required suite of apps, inclusive of solutions like a Digital Smartcard and VPN solution to ensure the device is secure.?Within a half hour, I was fully functional and able to connect to the HP corporate network, as a fully secure and productive employee of HP with many of my required applications.
So what is this Adaptive Endpoint Management (AEM) and why was it such a seamless experience??Based on the concept of “HP on HP” as customer zero, HP IT leverages AEM which is a fully managed service designed and run by HP Personal System Services. ?This end-to-end managed service supports the device experience cradle to grave.?Starting with the purchase, the service offers full endpoint lifecycle management, ranging from patch management; Windows feature update deployment; driver and firmware updates; application deployment and updates; self-service application installations; support; a full line of reporting capabilities including compliance; predictive analytics capabilities around device health; and ends with device retirement and refresh.
And as HP employee subscribed to “AEM”, my machine will remain secure, productive, and up to date with very little HP IT engagement through the lifecycle of the device.?From an employee experience, I have the confidence that little will be required of me to keep my machine secure and productive through its lifecycle, gets me to a parallel experience I have on my phone from a security, apps and update perspective.?And for HP and HP IT, the benefits include:
·???????Reduced IT and support costs, allowing those resources to focus on IT initiatives that make IT a competitive advantage for any company as well as impact the bottom line
·???????Simplification of the IT infrastructure ecosystem as legacy management tools can retire, and all is pushed to the cloud
·???????A simplified employee experience, regardless of whether some is on-prem or remote, increasing overall NSAT

·???????Highest level of security including the use of the Microsoft Security Baselines, and driver/firmware updates to reduce the attack vectors
·???????Implement AEM and forget about it
·???????Deployment of the latest and greatest technology certainly assists with talent retention as well as attracting the talent of the latest generation
·???????As customer zero, assists the continuous improvement of the service offering by providing direct engineering feedback on what works and what needs to improve
·???????Empowers users to self-reset a device should a major issue be encountered
·???????Reduction in help desk tickets based on a proven process, stable infrastructure and sound delivery methodologies
·???????And finally, ability for any employee to self-provision new devices in about a half hour without any IT intervention
Stay tuned for my next post where I will go deeper on the Adaptive Endpoint Management solution. I look forward to sharing some of the services and solutions are under the hood that make AEM such a great opportunity for organizations to engage HP and leverage the AEM service for their endpoint lifecycle management needs.
