HP Steps Up With 3D Technology to Revolutionize the Footwear Market
HP Inc. unveiled FitStation powered by HP, a new platform that will use cutting-edge 3D scanning, dynamic gait analysis, and manufacturing technologies to deliver custom-fitted and individualized footwear. FitStation is the next step in the company's quest to use commercial 3D technologies to completely reimagine how the world designs and manufactures.
A one-of-a-kind digital profile of each foot is created by FitStation powered by HP, an innovative hardware and software platform that takes 3D scans of the foot, measures foot pressure, and analyzes gait. It is the first end-to-end solution in the world to offer customized custom footwear, off-the-shelf shoe and insole recommendations, and 3D printed insoles1. The system will create a 3D printed insole using HP Multi Jet Fusion printing technology.
According to Louis Kim, Global Head of Immersive Computing, Personal Systems, HP Inc., "FitStation is a truly disruptive platform that will improve people's lives and change the way people buy footwear and shoe insoles." With a previously unseen level of customization and personalization, "We are reinventing the footwear shopping experience. We are combining HP's 3D scanning and printing technologies to realize this Blended Reality vision and are developing this ground-breaking platform in collaboration with key partners in the footwear sector.
FitStation is manufacturing the first 3D printed insoles in the world using dynamic gait analysis and 3D scanning, and Superfeet, a market leader in cutting-edge over-the-counter insoles, is testing the platform in a small number of their 4,000 retail locations. FitStation will help Steitz Secura, a German manufacturer of safety shoes, focus on comfort, preventative health, and safety.
