How's your WFH going?

How's your WFH going?

Hi, I am Devashish.

I hope that you are safe and are doing great at home.

I worked as a product marketer, launched and ran a successful mentorship program along with managing finances for a bootstrapped startup. The enthusiasm and willingness to learn have helped me diversify my work and has made me an advocate of "Consistent Learning."

So why stopping now?

Linkedin, as a platform, is a goldmine! Whatever your interests are, you would meet hundreds, if not thousands in here who are already the masters of your craft. So, why not learn from them, get their insights, and make the most out of this time?

It could be a blessing in disguise!

So, what are you waiting for? Scroll down and start your learning curve!

For this piece, I had the privilege of interviewing Mr. Abhishek Chaudhary, the Deputy Vice-President of one of the big corporate banks of India. With his 5+ years of experience in the corporate fold, he had amazing insights on the present situation of the economy and the way forward.

Do you think WFH is our best option right now?

Yes, of course. This being a communicable disease, a lockdown was definitely on the cards and it’s good that we have implemented it on short notice. WFH is the result of this lockdown. I think that it’s working out fine and moreover, if we are safe and healthy, we can easily compensate for this loss of time later.

If Lockdown is a necessity, why aren’t some countries not in favor of it?

See, there has to be a balance between economic and health implications and some countries are outweighing economic impact over health, but from the way I see it, the corporates and institutions work for 11 and a half months, and a 15-30 day lockdown won’t have impacted their balance sheets that badly.

Although there would be a substantial economic impact globally, if the lockdown goes on for 2-3 months.

What does your schedule look like these days?

Since I’m one of the many essential service personnel, my schedule is the same as before. After reaching home, I spend most of my time in normalizing and keeping myself fit.

How important is emotional attachment now, and how do you maintain it?

Isolation, as a measure, is catastrophic on human health, both mentally and physically. It reduces your immunity drastically.

So, an emotional dose is definitely required for the human body to be fit and fine, and this is the perfect time to catch up with lost friends, improve connections, and become a part of a happy community.

How can a student or a job seeker make the best out of this period?

I’m glad that you put up this question. See, internships and job offers are being cancelled and even layoffs would take place at some point because the economy is hit pretty hard, and the small, debt-laden companies are facing the full blow of it.

On the brighter side, the companies who are well funded and have substantial standpoints are falling short of manpower, and are going into “meditation” whereby, the general operation has slowed down, but it has given them the time to think about the new challenges.

So, there lies a great opportunity for young professionals to make their mark by helping these businesses out, and if they do well, they might as well land a job later.

Can you elaborate on this with an example?

Ok, let's talk about D-mart. They were very reluctant to go online, and they provided online service only in Mumbai, but this situation would need them to start online servicing, and they need ideas to execute it effectively. I definitely think that a student or a new graduate could get a remote internship with such organizations.

In the era of the internet, there’s nothing like a lockdown.

I think that the IT and digital space are in constant need of talent right now, and if a student can add value, then he/she would easily land a job when this whole situation normalizes.

A note from the writer:

Abhishek, The energy that you had throughout our conversation was truly amazing.

I know that you aren’t working from home, but you’ve given a whole lot of tips for others to effectively go about their WFH schedule, especially for students.

Thank you for your time!
