How's your resilience in the world of PR?

For all the major highs that come with a job in public relations, there are lows, and that usually comes from the amount of rejection PRs face. Aside from sales, there are few other professions that face rejection, high stress levels or are ignored multiple times a day.

We recently asked professionals how they dealt with rejection in their day-to-day, what is resilience, where does it come from and can it be built in a busy PR environment?

PR Stunt Watch: CALM’s balloons raise awareness, Greggs tries on Fashion Week, Lime Bike taps East London’s bakery culture and Fanta’s creepy collab

Lee Sanders was on Stunt Watch duty on Friday, and he brought some classics to the regular column.

In what was a busy week for PR stunts, Lee shone a light on a really important Campaign Against Living Miserably campaign for World Suicide Prevention Day, which was aimed at raising awareness of suicide amongst those aged 24 and under.

He also highlighted Greggs gold-plated jewellery collection for London Fashion Week, Lime Bike's coffee shop campaign, and Beetlejuice Fanta.

How to write a proper PR apology

When it comes to matters of the heart, it has been said that “sorry” seems to be the hardest word, and so it goes with matters of public relations and reputation.

There have been some terrible apologies in 2024 so far, and historically, examples of bad apologies go back as far as the trade of public relations - relatively recent ones include Haywood at BP, Zuckerberg during the Facebook Cambridge Analytica scandal and numerous Suella Braverman gaffs during the last parliament.?

So, what was the advice of PR professionals?

  • Make sure your apology isn’t Priti rubbish
  • Be sincere and out of legal hot water
  • Can you legally apologise
  • There will always be some that wont accept an apology
  • Beware the ‘non-apology’
  • It’s not as easy as it looks
  • Consider the appropriate channel
