How's Your Business Messaging?

How do we continue to grow our business with new and existing customers? How do we ramp up our marketing and sales efforts as to not go stagnant.”.


Has this topic come up at your company? Are you frustrated about your current situation? Are you feeling a bit over whelmed? Have sales declined, and you just aren't generating the revenues you need?


I get asked this question a lot from owners and general managers. “What kind of messaging can we put in place to ensure that we stay out in-front of the best prospects for the products and services we offer?” What strategies do we need?", "How do we engage, how do we start, and what do we need to do now to get them thinking of about the products and services you offer before they need them?


Here are a few of the key questions I ask clients who work with me or readers of my online posts. It helps them focus on their approach to a new marketing strategy. Every company and industry is different, but these are the questions that seem to help most of the time. The questions may seem elementary, yet I am surprised by the number of businesses that stopped asking them when the economy was good.


Who are (what's the profile of) the best prospects for the products and services you offer?

Where are they located?

What must be happening in their business lives for them to even consider a looking products and services, like the one you offer?

If they aren't attending trade shows gathering information and ideas, how might you engage them another way? Online, Offline, US Mail, website?

How do you go about starting the relationship?


Now what? Now it's time to work on your client acquisition plan. Your plan should include several ways to create awareness, generate interest, and drive traffic to your company's phone or website. Perhaps one element is an email marketing component. There are several email platforms to choose from based on your needs and level of your experience. Constant Contact, Mail Chimp and more.


Again, ask yourself the question, “What must be happening in the lives of the best prospects for the products and services you offer?
