How's The Boss?

How's The Boss?

Being a leader in business or a sole director can be a lonely existence, so the question beckons; how do we maintain a healthy state of mental fitness?

Cast back to March 2020 when the world was about to shut down with COVID 19 lockdows etc. I was based in the UK where spring was springing and the days were a lot easier to endure with blue skies and sun on more days than not. As the weeks rolled on the days seemed to get darker, when in reality the days got longer and warmer. At the time I was starting my journey as a business coach and mentor to small business owners and young entrepreneurs. I remember someone saying to me “are you ok?” I mean, is anyone asking the boss if you’re ok?”. I also remember posting a raw video of having some hard times, feeling low and very much up n down. I received a comment suggesting that the coach should always be OK because you're supposed to be supporting people, therefore always on your game! Lets just say I enjoyed discussing this and explaining it’s actually a good thing to show that I too have to navigate through troubled waters from time to time and I too use the tools I share to swim to the top.

This brings me back to the question, as a business owner of a recruitment company in Australia, responsible for the business and staff etc; “How's The Boss?”... I’m not referring to Tony Danza for those old enough to remember the 80’s TV show “Who’s The Boss?”.. That could be a different blog for another day.

I’ve had fantastic supportive personal relationships in the past where I’ve been able to offload my stress however this is hard for our partners to understand, relate wholly to the situation etc. There's nothing like having a business partner or fellow director to have a good old whinge to. I feel for people who are in a similar position to myself at times, living a lonely existence as a leader of people, of business, children (as a parent) and having the day to day financial pressures that come with it.

We then open up instagram or Linkedin (Dare I mention facebook or TikTok?) to see six packs and 5am clubs where we wonder how the hell can we fit all that in as well. I wonder if this can be more demotivating than motivating, I know I’ve occasionally chosen to hide content or unfollow people as I know it's not helping or counterproductive to my journey.

So, How is the boss??

How are you??

How do you deal with your stress?

Do you find a balance of mental & physical fitness?

Is it hard to maintain and do you stray from time to time?

I’d love to hear your thoughts on this?
