How to connect Zoom with LinkedIn Live via Restream

As you may have noticed, for the past 3 years, along with Louise Triance, I have been broadcasting regular webcast shows, using a variety of platforms, and all under our Recruiter Zone channel. At the moment we use Crowdcast as the base platform to host shows, and this enables us to not only broadcast to attendees there (who can join in the comments section), but also to livestream the video to Facebook, Periscope and YouTube. By also streaming to a custom feed, I am also able to send this content in real-time to Restream.io. I have a free account with Restream, which enables me to send video content to almost every other video platform which allows it, including LinkedIn, Twitter (via Periscope), and Facebook - otherwise known as the Big Three.

Whilst I have been using Zoom for a couple of years, you'll have seen the exponential growth of the platform in the last month, accelerated by the current unpleasantness and the surge of those working from home. We have been swamped with a torrent of formal and informal Zoom meetings, parties, webinars, and everything in between.Now that many are getting used to it, they are asking me how they can more fully exploit their brand new Zoom Pro accounts. And a frequent question is "How can I stream my Zoom meeting or webinar to Facebook Live, Twitter and especially to LinkedIn Live?"

Well, wonder no more. Firstly, the answer is yes, you can do it, but not with the free Zoom account. From the Zoom Pro account up (￡11.99 pm) you will be able to follow the instructions below.

Before you start, you will need the following:

1. A Zoom Pro account.
2. A LinkedIn Live enabled account. If you have one, you'll already have been notified. If not, follow this link to apply now.
3. A Facebook account, and admin rights to any Facebook group or page you want to stream to. (optional)
4. A free account with https://restream.io/

How to multistream a Zoom meeting via Restream to LinkedIn Live. Follow the steps in this guide first to connect Zoom to Restream.

Enabling Custom Live Streaming Service in Zoom Meetings

To enable users in your Zoom account to live stream meetings to Restream, follow these instructions:

Enabling Custom Live Streaming for Meetings

1. Sign in to the Zoom web portal.
2. Click Account Management > Account Settings.
3. Under In Meeting (Advanced), scroll down and click the toggle next to Allow live streaming the meetings.
4. Click the Custom Live Streaming Service checkbox to enable it.

5. Update the instructions so that the meeting organiser can configure the required settings when they schedule the webinar. This is just a free text box, so simply add the RTMP URL and Stream Key from your new Restream account. (bottom right, when you login)

For example: "Stephen's Restream

RTMP URL: rtmp://live.restream.io/live/

(PS. It's vital to ensure there is a / at the end of this link)

Web page url: Add any web page, as it's not important. Such as https://ayeright.com"

So now you have enabled your Zoom account to send a live feed of content to Restream, whenever you need it.

Next - How to connect Zoom to Restream for individual meetings with the Custom Live Streaming Feature.

Setting up Custom Live Streaming for Meetings

1. Sign in to the Zoom web portal.

2. Click Meetings.

3. Select a meeting which has already scheduled

4. Scroll down to the bottom of the page, click on "Live Streaming", and click the configure live stream settings link.

5. Go to your Restream Dashboard and again copy your "RTMP URL" and your "Stream Key".

7. Paste the RTMP URL from Restream and it into Stream URL field, then Paste the Stream Key from Restream into the Stream Key field in Zoom.

IMPORTANT NOTE: You need to insert a forward slash (/) at the end of the RTMP URL as the zoom does not automatically insert it. rtmp://live.restream.io/live/

• Live Streaming page URL : You must enter a website address here, but it doesn't matter what it is. You can copy the URL from your Facebook Page, Facebook Group, Youtube Channel or timeline where you are streaming and paste it into the Live Streaming page URL. This option is just for you to define your preferred url where you want to share your stream.

8. Click Save to save your live streaming settings.

The host should be able to live stream this webinar without needing to add these settings after the webinar begins

Starting the Live Stream during the Meeting

To live stream your meeting to a custom platform (via Restream):

1. Start the meeting as usual, by doing one of the following:
2. From your calendar - If you have added the webinar to your calendar, click the link displayed on your calendar reminder.
3. From the Zoom website - Sign into Zoom, find the webinar in the My Webinars tab, and click Start.
4. Click the More button in the Host Controls.

5. Choose Live on Custom Live Stream Service.

If the organiser configured this webinar for live custom streaming, a browser window opens that shows the progress as Zoom prepares the live stream of your webinar.

If the organiser did not set up this webinar for live custom streaming, you must enter the values provided in the instructions above.

In order to check you are successfully streaming to Restream, look at your Restream dashboard, and then check the intended destinations of your live stream on LinkedIn Live, Twitter, etc etc.

You can now stream direct to LinkedIn Live, without using a third party intermediary, like Restream.

Simply go to this page, to enter your stream credentials, and hit Go Live when ready.
