How Your Website Can Help You Avoid Red Flag Clients

Welcome to today's edition of the Seven Figure Consultant LinkedIn Newsletter for Women in Consulting. Don't forget that you can get daily updates from Jessica in your LinkedIn news feed by accessing her LinkedIn profile and hitting Follow. She will be sharing insights and discussions through the week that she would love to hear your views on.

In the first few years of my business, I felt a lot of pressure to be someone who I was a bit like, but who wasn’t like my core self. Does that resonate with you?

I felt like I needed to fit what other people’s expectations of how I should be were, so that we could work together easily. I was almost saying, ‘tell me how you want me to be’! I think a lot of women can struggle with this. And then you get the contract, and you do the work and you don’t really enjoy it because you’re not being yourself and you don’t get along with your client.

It can be hard to show your personality, but the more you do, the more you will attract the right kind of clients for you. You’re letting people know what you are like before you work with them.

One place you can do this is on your website. Before someone books a call with you, they can get an idea of your personality and your approach. It means the people we speak to are the best fit clients from day one.

You’re not inviting people into the sales process who would have been obvious red flags because they have already decided not to get in contact with you. If they have read your website and thought, ‘I really don’t like what I’m seeing here’ then from your point of view, they are not going to want to work with you.

That saves you from exploring whether you are a good fit, because you clearly aren’t. And the great thing is, you don’t know about that process because those people never make themselves known to you. You get to speak to the people who did like what they read.

Putting your personality into your website doesn’t mean using lots of pink, unless you really want to. We don't want to play the female entrepreneur game. You can share insights into what it is like to work with you from the language you use, references to your influences, or how you go about working with people. Those little asides can add so much when it comes to introducing yourself through your website.

I can think of several examples where it's been a real struggle for women to let those little chinks through and show what they think about things and who they are as a person when they're not working, because we can have such strong rules for ourselves about, ‘I need to be this and I can't be this’. But do try to move past that.

It's very freeing to say you are going to be yourself, say what you want to say, and know that it helps your brand. It doesn't detract from it. By being yourself, you can attract the right people and repel the wrong ones.

Let me know in the comments, how do you share your personality in your consulting business?

I've created a free PDF report called The Six Elements of a Seven Figure Business. It’s my most popular free resource and in it I outline the 6 areas of unscaled businesses that need to change in order to move past being ‘booked up and burned out’ and shifting into that higher gear that gets you cruising again.

It’s the framework that helps consultant women like you find their feet and get back to leading the business, rather than being buried in client work and back-end business operations.

Sign up here for your PDF report, and I'll show you the six elements your consultancy needs to make the shift from a nice little 6-figure lifestyle business to a serious 7-figure enterprise.
