HOW ARE YOUR VALUE NUMBERS?
If you walk into any company and ask them how their “value numbers†were last month, you would probably get some weird looks and this response; “You mean our sales numbers?â€
You see most companies have a sales board or some type of revenue generation chart to show off their team’s sales numbers. You will find these boards standing large and proud for everyone to see.
Yet if you walk into the lunch room you will typically find some cheesy framed posters with images and words that represent “Teamwork†or “Accountabilityâ€.
Trying to push culture on people never works because it needs to happen organically.
If you want it to happen organically, you need first establish the pillars your culture will stand on, then communicate them to your team. Then let them develop organically by rewarding the good examples of your culture.
At Timmermann Group one of the ways we do this is by something we developed called the Value Board.
The Value Board acts as a sales board but it keeps track of the when a person is recognized by a peer for demonstrating one of the values of our team’s culture.
Any member of our team, except a member of our Leadership Team, can give another member a “value card†which is a hand-written thank you card telling the person how much they appreciate the other person based on what value they demonstrated.
At the end of the month we add up the recognition and publicly recognize the team member who has the most nominations.
There is no better way to establish, grow, or sustain your company’s values than to track, recognize, and, reward the people who demonstrate them.
