How Your Use of Absolutes Reveal Your Beliefs
Using Absolutes
Absolutes can cause problems. If we choose to utilize absolutes too frequently, our integrity can be questioned. After all,?very little can?ALWAYS be a certain way! We live in a time and place where most situations are shades of grey, and we can carefully honor this by acknowledging that things could fall into one of these?categories before declaring someone "never" does the right thing or "always" forgets a step.?
Besides affecting our credibility, the use of absolutes can make us sound condescending and negative and even make us appear uncaring towards the people on our teams. Great leaders leave room for other points of view, and other solutions.
So, next time you find yourself using an absolute, stop, think, and re-phrase. It?could?be the start of something really great!
