As college decisions start to roll out this month, you may start to hear about "deferred" admissions decisions, which have increased over recent years. This decision is particularly prevalent among the most selective colleges, whether public or private. In short, it means that students who applied in the early application round are left in limbo until the spring of senior year.
Waiting can be hard, especially when you see other seniors celebrating their decisions. A few years ago, my family changed all our New Year's plans because my son's application was deferred. And get this . . . like so many other teens every year, he stopped working on his other applications until after his deferral notice!
Every year, students (and their parents) are super confident in their high GPAs and test scores that they take a break from drafting application essays.
If your teen's application was deferred, take heart . . . your teen is still a great candidate and it's still early in the admissions season.?
