How Your Pain Can Help Others

How Your Pain Can Help Others

"He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us." - 2 Corinthians 1:4 (NIV)

God can use our pain to help us serve more effectively by making us more sensitive to other people’s pain.

Experiencing pain makes us more empathetic to those who are going through the same kind of struggle. Instead of focusing on our own pain, we can choose to redirect our focus to helping others who are also going through it.

When someone is grieving the loss of a child, another parent who has experienced such grief is better qualified to minister to them. Someone who has battled with a certain addiction is better equipped to help someone else struggling with that same addiction.

No matter what kind of pain you are going through, God wants to use it to help others if you surrender it to Him. As 2 Corinthians 1:5-6 continues to say, “For the more we suffer for Christ, the more God will shower us with His comfort through Christ. Even when we are weighed down with troubles, it is for your comfort and salvation! For when we ourselves are comforted, we will certainly comfort you. Then you can patiently endure the same things we suffer.”
