Long before I got on a long-haul flight to America last year, I was super excited about the film selection and getting to indulge one of my healthy obsessions....Marvel movies.
I know, I know, many of you will side with my late husband, who rolled his eyes and shook his head in utter incomprehension at my love of these films!
But honestly, any kind of superhero saga really floats my boat, so I couldn’t have been more delighted to sit back and spoil myself with two hours of DC’s recent offer, Black Adam :)
Now you might be wondering why I’m sharing this, but in my attempt to relay the film plot to a friend, I realised how our obsessions?provide serious clues to what’s important?in either our work, life or both.
Here’s what I mean.
When asked by my friend why I liked the film, I explained how it made me well up in parts (yes really!) as the hero learns a big lesson in making positive choices, and a young boy finds a heartfelt way to make a difference without resorting to violence.
In short, the hero’s journey and the inevitable personal growth that goes along with it really moves me.
I get a massive jolt of energy witnessing an individual’s development.?For me, there’s nothing better than watching someone get their “Aha” moment and positively step into whatever that is or entails.
Years ago, long before I had any idea I wanted to make a living as a coach, this would have been a huge clue had I ever thought about what my interest in these films was really telling me (beyond the fact that I could stare at Chris Hemsworth for hours ??).

So today I pose the same question to you:
What passions or obsessions do you have, and what do they tell you about what might be important from a work or life-enhancing perspective?
What delights you and engages you? What moves you and grabs at your heart strings, making you tear up or want to burst with happy emotions? What could you talk about for hours without getting bored?
And most importantly, why?
What is it about those things that draws you in like a magnet and holds your interest, and what clues do they provide about what needs to feature more prominently in your work or life?
Your unique fascinations, preoccupations and fixations (no matter how weird and wonderful!) are giving you signals, so?pay attention to them??
Like my own example, they could just bring to light something important that was hidden in plain sight, which signposts a direction of travel that will take you towards greater happiness and fulfilment??
