How Your Nonprofit Can Make the Case For Donor Support

Does your nonprofit have a Unique Value Proposition (UVP)?

If your IDEAL funder or donor were to read your UVP on your website, how quickly would they be able to understand it?

Effectively communicating your UVP to your donors and funders is incredibly important. Here are a few points to think about:

  • CLARITY: Your mission may be crystal clear to you, yet your donors may require a little more clarity. Use clear language and lead with what they get out of it.
  • APPEALING: You care a LOT about your cause. Make sure to use a messaging angle that will best convey that same appeal to your donors, ie. success stories.
  • EXCLUSIVE: Set your nonprofit's work apart! There will be other organizations that are trying to make a similar impact. You need to come up with a unique approach to earn their donation.
  • CREDIBLE: How do you build trust? Think about accompanying your UVP with testimonials from those you serve, data to display your impact, ie. ROI & SROI, and trust badges from organizations you've partnered with.

Remember, 58% of wealthy donors say they would give more if they could determine the impact of their donations.

"Why should I give to you?" This is a fundamental question that donors will ask before they reach a decision.

To successfully make the case for DONOR SUPPORT, build clarity around the following:

  • What is your mission?
  • Who are you serving?
  • What value does your work bring to the community and those you serve?
  • What are your measurable results?
  • What is the Return on Investment?

If you can answer these questions, you are well on your way to creating a POWERFUL Unique Value Proposition!
