Earlier this year, we talked about the importance of setting goals for a successful and productive year. As months go by, the initial enthusiasm for planning and achieving these goals starts to wear off. Now, at the halfway mark of the year, is a good time to take stock of your progress.?
This week at Career Recruiters Inc ., we are sharing our insights to help you assess your mid-year progress and reignite your path toward accomplishing your goals.
Nothing should come as a surprise
When checking on your mid-year progress, nothing should come as a surprise. It’s important to know why you are where you are. By this time, you should have a good understanding of how you’re doing in relation to your goals.?
You should be well aware of what you’ve achieved, where you have fallen short and the reasons behind both. This awareness comes from consistent tracking and regular check-ins. Use this knowledge to make informed adjustments and ensure that you remain on track for the rest of the year.
Be honest with yourself and your goals
If you find yourself falling behind on a goal, it's important to ask whether it was genuinely a goal you wanted to achieve. If over time there has been disinterest or a lack of commitment,? evaluate the goal's relevance and importance to you.?

If the goal is still worth pursuing, assess the gap between your current progress and your desired outcome. Gauge the effort needed to catch up and determine if you’re capable of committing to that effort. From this, you will be able to create a realistic action plan, adjust your timeline and regain momentum.
Be conscious of your gains and rethink your goalposts
Celebrating achievements, no matter how small, is necessary to maintain motivation and momentum. During your mid-year review, acknowledge and appreciate the progress you've made so far.? Identify what’s worked well and what hasn't and use these insights as you finish out the rest of the year.?
If along the way you find yourself on track to achieve what you've set out to do, challenge yourself to push the goalposts a little further. Find ways to elevate your efforts and set new benchmarks.
Understand the setbacks and course-correct
When you find yourself falling short of your mid-year expectations, it's important to understand the reasons behind these setbacks. Perhaps some compromises were made in managing your time, prioritizing tasks, handling unexpected changes or tracking your progress. Understanding the impact of these compromises on your current situation provides clarity on where you need to adjust.
Perhaps certain goals required more time, effort and resources than you initially anticipated.? It’s important to take the time to readjust your goals to shifting circumstances. Even if you need to make adjustments, remember that staying committed to the overall journey is key to sustaining progress.
