How your feelings can propel you forward

How your feelings can propel you forward

My clients tell me all the time what they need. They need a job. They need to get back on their feet. They need fulfillment. They need better work. They need to work harder.?

It takes a lot more work for them to tell me what they feel.?

I know they feel stuck, or tired, or angry. I see they are afraid and ashamed of their emotions. And if you’re reading this, you might be there too.?

Work culture tells us emotions are the problem. It tells us to suck it up, ignore feelings, and just keep going. Keep the emotions in the dark, hidden, and unseen.?

The result is that you take fewer risks. You don’t apply for your dream job or start your own business. Even passion projects like writing a novel get pushed to the back burner.??

You’ll end up stuck in that same unfulfilling job without the pay or work you deserve – feeling belittled by a boss who doesn’t understand what you’re capable of.?

You’ll feel unheard and unseen. You may even distance yourself from yourself. It’s almost like creating a fake version of yourself – a performance you put on at work and in public.?

But I have really good news for you. The real problem isn’t that you have emotions, it’s that you haven’t been allowed to feel them.?

You don’t have to keep suppressing what you feel. Suppressing unwanted feelings will cause more unwanted feelings. It’s a vicious cycle. So break it.?

Your feelings are a part of you, and they can be extremely useful. Every emotion conveys information and data. So pay attention to what is being conveyed.?

Embracing emotion is a skill that is beaten out of us by society / work / our families.?

Embracing emotion doesn’t mean allowing your feelings to hijack your life or wallowing in self pity. It’s the opposite. It’s about slowing down, honoring how you feel, and confronting your emotions with dignity and reverence.?

This works because it releases pressure. It sends a signal to your body that your experience is valid – that you matter. That you get to take up space. That you have been treated unfairly and deserve better.?

When you give this to yourself, the whole world opens up.?

It takes bravery, but you can do it. You will cultivate the courage to listen to yourself. You’ll learn that you’re ok, even when you’re not ok.?

You’ll even learn to share with others – which will deepen your relationships and expand your network. People will feel closer to you. They’ll help you. They’ll open doors. They’ll connect you with others. It’s a virtuous cycle.?

When you’re connected to your emotions, you communicate with passion and ease. You’ll be seen as a leader that others can trust.?

This leads to higher quality connections, interviews, and promotional opportunities.?

You’ll manage your life better. You’ll perform better at work. You’ll start passion projects. Those projects will turn into your life’s work.?

You will feel fulfilled and capable of handling any curveballs that life throws your way.?

This is true liberation.?

If you feel seen by this email, consider it a sign.?

Have you been putting off your passion projects? Have you been delaying making a move??

Start by feeling whatever there is to feel.?

It may be helpful to share with someone. I’m always available if you’d like to chat. Consider that one conversation with a coach, could change the trajectory of where you’re headed.?

Reply to this email, and I’d be happy to find time to talk.?
